I've never really found otherwise. The only thing that does feel different now is that many people are completely disengaged from the world around them through electronics, but the people who you actually do interact with are the same mixed bag as always, with the majority being amiable in my experience.
If you actually bother to make eye contact with folks, you'll find that most are always respectful, especially fellow whites.
At least that's been my experience, I've traveled and lived all over the world starting in the 70's.
