This seems fine to me. Taking a premise, but changing the characters in it to explore a different story is a common and traditional story variant. This isn't them making Ghostbusters female. This isn't them changing the race of a single character in a movie. This is them taking a plot that has been used in hundred of books, movies and shows and changing the characters around. It's "A group of individuals are alone on an Island and cut off from civilization. What happens to them" As long as they write it competently, and it's not just a simple ripoff of LOTF it should be a fine movie.
