This happens every time a country leaves an embassy/consulate. You burn all classified docs in a designated burner.

I should mention, this is standard operating procedures just for destroying confidential papers in a foreign embassy anyways because even shredding isn't foolproof and you don't want the host country going through your garbage. the reason there was a lot of smoke this time is because they are burning all of their paperwork. This is a non news story.
