Fellow Hoosier reporting in. I live in Indy, but travel through rural Central/Northern parts of the state all the time for work. I know my wife wouldn't be up for it (she likes having more city stuff to do), but I'd gladly relocate to any one of the hundreds of small factory/farming communities in the state. My single biggest qualm is how flat and monotonous the landscape is. But the people are first class, salt of the earth folks. Same applies to the rest of the Midwest in my experience, as well as rural parts of PA, WV, etc.
This is the way to live. It's beautiful to actually have a connection to a community.

Indy is super nice, one of the whitest large cities in America as well. As for your wife you just have to sell it in a way shell understand, tell her about the non existent crime, the safe schools, the close families, shell eat it up. If you have a few bucks heres somewhere to live and a business in the heart of downtown for $250k, turn it into a coffee shop and let her run it.
Well my wife's actually a doctor haha, so it'd have to be small-town family medicine (nothing wrong with that, just kind of boring according to her). Indy maybe be statistically not in a bad place in terms of 'whiteness' but there is a critical mass of blacks here that leads to spill over crime outside of the ghettos. Juts a few weeks ago a young mother was robbed at gunpoint while out walking with her 7 month old in a stroller, broad daylight in a decent neighborhood. A couple of teen niggers hopped out of a car and pointed a gun at her, took her phone and engagement ring. In our yuppie neighborhood it's just low level property crime, a few burglaries every now and then. But nothing like my brother's place in central PA. I'm baffled when they leave the house wide open for hours at a time, never lock doors at night. We have an alarm system, 2 good sized dogs, and I have a pistol in the bedroom. Not that we need all of those layers of protection, but I don't fuck around with protecting my family.
