They are a good breed, they form higher than average bonds with their owners and are usually quite intelligent and observant. I had a female who had one litter of puppies and after that she was the more nurturing dog I've ever known, she nursed/mothered a litter of kittens several years later after her own puppies when their mom cat died a few days after giving birth.

I've had one female pitbull, a few mutts, a lhasa apso, a boxer, two St. Bernards, and a weimeranar, and I've observed my friends' and family's dogs for decades now. If you've ever owned a pitbull you would know from experience that they are top-tier intelligence and perceptiveness compared to most other breeds of dogs. There are 4 different breeds that fall under the generalization of "pitbull," only 1 of which was bred for fighting. The ancestor breed and the other 3 subtypes were work and show dogs. I agree with you that bloodlines/lineages artificially selected for fighting traits should not continue but it's actually really easy to discern them from the variants of bull terrier that have never been bred for fighting. And the latter are much more common pretty much everywhere you go except for nigger cities where dogfighting occurs. And even then, stronger regulation + changing culture has made the dogfighting phenomenon largely die out over the past 2 decades
