Anyone remember how every other commercial in the 90's was a diet commercial centered around low fat diet food. IMO this is what caused companies to remove fat from everything, add a low fat label to their products, and replace the fats with sugars, known today as high fructose corn syrup.

I believe it, all 4 of my grandparents lived to at least 86 and all of them ate in ways that would horrify a modern nutritionist.

My mothers father would eat over 1.5 dozen eggs per week, and Saturdays and Sundays cook up a pound of bacon with breakfast (each day), and use the grease during the week for cooking. Meals were heavily meat based plus things from their garden (they had a small farm).

My other grandparents used lard to cook everything, drank fairly heavily, and yet both lived to their early 90's.

I suspect genetics and activity level play a bigger role than what you eat within reason.

Meanwhile, I've cut soda out of my diet and switched to a diet high in protein and fat (but no trans fats). Feels alright. I make ham, egg and cheese burritos fried with butter for breakfast, and it fills me up well enough that I can skip lunch with no problems. I just drink ice water throughout the day until I can come home to make dinner, which usually involves chicken and broccoli.
