The best interrogation technique is to play the long game. You make them forget that they are your prisoners, and instead make them think that you are their best friend. Take them out, remove all apprehension through alcohol, drugs, or other carnal pleasures, then ''accidentally'' bring up something controversial and make them talk about it in depth. From that point on, if the target thinks they are still free, you own them. You have the dirt, and all it took was a bit of misplaced kindness.

If they have a family, threaten that, or hurt them if necessary. Sleep deprivation. Chinese water torture. Force feed them food/pills to give them diarrhea, but don't untie them from a sitting position. Drug-induced hallucination. Putrid smells bad enough to burn the sinuses. Sensory deprivation. Cut off one digit at a time with a red hot knife. If they dont answer questions after they see all the bits and pieces of themselves they never will. Starvation and sleep deprivation help a lot as well.

You use pain to induce an impaired psychological state and then you question the prisoner while he's in that state and incapable of maintaining a lie. You can do the same thing with drugs, sleep deprivation, or social isolation. Time scales are different depending on the method.

Say you're using pain because you don't have drugs and don't have much time. You first beat on the prisoner for a while, cut him and rub caustic shit in the wound, pour boiling water on him, attach the wires from a field telephone to him and turn the crank, half drown him, etc., to soften him up. Once he's good and fucked up and half-delirious from the pain, you start asking questions. There's a science to asking them, too. You're trying to catch him in lies so you ask the same things multiple ways and ask for details and whatnot. Once you catch him in a lie, you start hurting him in ways that do permanent damage. Remove fingers. Attach the field telephone wires to his testicles. Remind him every time that what you are doing now can't be undone and that you won't kill him, but that he'll live the rest of his life as a cripple or blind or whatever unless he cooperates.

You can add more psychological pressure by threatening his family or making him think his conspirators have already sold him out.

The point is to induce powerlessness and despair so he'll just quit psychologically and cooperate. Every person has his pressure points you can use to break him.

99% of the time you won't have time on your side, so you would have to act fast. Sure you could string someone up by their wrists and start using them as a punching bag, but it's the small things that make the big difference. Just remember:

1. It's easy to bring intense pain in small ways. (so they'll look good for propaganda videos showing you're treating the prisoners well)

2. Flash torture is best torture. Short, but very intense sessions.

3. Often just hanging someone up by their wrists or ankles is enough to get them to start talking. (Keep It Simple Stupid)

sleep derivation is the most effective. Loud music and strobe lights for 24 hours straight then shut it and the lights off, 2 minutes later when they fall asleep crank it all back on for another 24 hours. Rinse and repeat, they will literally be on the brink of insanity in less than a week

We found it pretty effective to shove the barrel of M4 down the mouth of the person being interrogated. That and buttstrokes to the face. This was 100% effective in our limited use.

So it's a combination of unconscious answering, half hallicunating and reward (you may sleep if you answer) that leads to success.

That only works when the target hasn't been captured (which I think OP is implying) and is being interrogated. If they know they're prisoners, they'll have their guard up. Making prisoners develop Stockholm Syndrome is harder than you think. You employ a different method to gather intelligence.

But your method also works too, provided it's like a "cold approach" long game. Developing assets is one of the hardest things to do. You have to know much about the target (personal details), general background (culture, environment, and other factors), and psychology. You need to create situations where you can extract information without the target knowing. Like you mentioned, it's through bribing, use of substances to loosen them up, and coupled with subtle but probing questioning. For example, you somehow infiltrate the target's group and get chummy. After that, you go invite him to a bar and offer to pay for drinks, a couple of times. After some time of going out for drinks, you slip the drink with just enough drugs to loosen them up and begin the subtle probing. It's a little easier if the target is a druggie. Don't do it how the TV shows/movies do it with drugs. Don't overdose; just use enough or under enough so they don't suspect getting drugged.

Sometimes, the cold approach is just a way for you to get to know their weaknesses so that you can then employ interrogation techniques. For instance, you get close enough for the target to reveal info about their family and how far they'll go for them. Then you go arrange for the target's family to be kidnapped and you use them against the target.

If they're not family-oriented, then they're more likely just looking out for themselves or are idealists. Physical and psychological torture has a good chance to work on the self-oriented ones; don't believe the crap about torture not working. Idealists, you really need to fuck their brains. That means drugs and psychological breaking.
