As far as I know the asian parents that move to a western country do it because they want to leave wherever they are, usually China, because even they know it's a shit hole. Most of all they don't want their children inheriting the same behavior that made their home country so shitty.

Asians who come over for study know that they're going back soon, so they mostly just hang out with people in similar situations and who have similar wealth and social status. Australia gets shit loads of money from Asians who want education. This will all change in ten years when China finally gets a decent higher education sector together. They don't come to Australia because they care about Australia or think Australians or interesting or want to cuddle koalas.

It has to do with upbringing, being one of them I find other Asian children who were socialized with Western values and thoughts at a much older age find "conflict" of values between West and East. Younger children may very well accept Western values more easily depending on with whom they lead the majority of their social interaction with (asian counterparts or Westernized individuals). Older children may have already been socialized in Asian values and thoughts and will be less likely to socialize and interact with Westernized individuals due to the perceived lack of a common ground. To some level it could even be that feeling of alienation. I mean how do you talk to someone when you don't feel you have anything in common at all? A lot of times I think this just makes the individual default to what's comfortable: other Asians who are in the same predicament.
