Is China evil?
I'm racially Chinese but I've never been to China nor do I speak the language.
My knowledge of China is basically from stories that my mom tells me who gets her stories from her mom or when she visits her rich cousins living in China(they own a mountain or something).

Now I read stuff on the net and the consensus seems to be that China has a severe lack of morals and values human lives very little, but my mom tells me stories about how Tiananmen Square Massacre was totally justified because those students should have been studying instead of rioting all the time and after the massacre the country got a lot better and order was restored, it was a terrible thing to do but it was necessary for the greater good, is how she put it. Also that the Dalai Lama is an evil person because he keeps saying bad things about China.

China is only out for its self interest.

It has very little conception of humanity, it stifles what is best in human nature.

China is great because of its size, its geographical importance.

It was too centralized and monolithic to truly drive forward.

A world with only Chinese would be ordered, well run but bereft of any compelling art or innovation.

No. China is the most benevolent big empire ever.

As empires go they are far from the worst.

The thing is, in my country China often does this get-together thing where some people from China comes to our city and there's this huge get-together where all the Chinese around gather and it's a big party where they promote Chinese jobs or universities and whatnot.
A bunch of my cousins already went to China for education or jobs, they offer scholarship programs and whatnot, but one of my cousins said that it was a ripoff since they said it would include living expenses and travel but they just gave him chump change not enough for necessities or pay for anything and it was in the boonies, but he had already paid for going there so he had to stay whether he liked it or not.

When you accept this, you understand China's actions particularly in the military realm:

Russia has enough of China's shit in the 90's and early 00's where China buys a dozen or so aircraft or weapons systems saying "This is just the start of the order!" then proceeds to reverse engineer and make their own copies without paying Russia. Russia finally tells them to fuck off and refuses to sell them anything substantial for years. China then 'allies' up with Russia, doing military exercises and so forth - Russia then starts selling new equipment to China and the cycle has started to repeat. Ask Vietnam what China does to their 'friends' the moment that they're not 100% supportive of them.
