My wife has been saying recently that she wants to go to church. I've been to church services as part of my job before, and I wouldn't say I'm religious. I say I'm a Christian but I'm not practising and I don't really believe much of it. If anything I'm more agnostic.
I really don't like the modern church, and from what I've seen it's all 'if its not a popular opinion, we'll just say it was written a long time ago and it doesn't matter; case in point being gay marriage. My wife is really traditional and I guess that she thinks she'll find people like us in church, but I'm very skeptical.
She also wants our future children baptised. I'm really at split ends about it. Neither me nor her were baptised, both born to single mothers and we want to have a family the correct and traditional way. My main issue is that they would be getting baptised into a religion that doesn't really stand for anything nowadays (in the mainstream at least).
I've been reading a lot into asatru and heathenry, and I find it pretty fascinating. The problem is that it's full of fucking LARPers and the last place I'd want to take my wife is a meet up of neckbeards with made in China Mjollnir necklaces.
What can Sup Forums recommend? Try and dissuade her from going to church? Go to church and just ignore the cucky stuff? Take the plunge and look more into asatru?
>tldr
Wife wants us to start going to church, wat do

Give me life advice bros

I was raised Christian and I realized how ASS American Christianity is. I still go with my family to church but I truly believe in Asatru. I would like to be Agnostic but I'm too pussy to not believe there's a greater power. I plan on becoming a born again Christian when I grow old though just to be cautious. I would suggest you delve deeper into the world of Asatru and if you're wife makes you go to church, just do it. And about your children, I suggest that you teach them about heathentry and it's fundamentals but I would raise them Christian as they will be spending lots of time with your wife and it's much easier for a child to grasp than something such as Asatru.
But that's just my opinion.

Just go to church.
Learn a thing or two about Christianity.

Thanks, that's pretty good advice. I consider myself a agnostic theist. I reckon there probably is a higher power.
What materials did you read to get into asatru?

I've been to various churches before and pretty much all of them were 'everyone is welcome, do whatever you want and we won't judge, everything is fine and our religion is outdated' churches.
I don't want my kids exposed to a belief system like that.

>I really don't like the modern church,

There are probably 20 different kinds of churches to choose from, and for it to really mean anything you need to go to one of those hard core ones. Try something orthodox and/or something that has a statement of doctrine or statement of faith.

I suggest reading these three books to begin with.
1. A Practical Heathen's Guide to Asatru
2. We Are Our Deeds
3. Culture of the Teutons
Also here is a r/Asatru reading list that has lots of helpful reading material: reddit.com/r/asatru/wiki/reading_list
I too am in my own spiritual war between Christianity, Asatru and Agnostic Aethism so I hope my experience can help you.

There are no Orthodox churches near me at all, and the ones that I've found seem to be for Eastern European immigrants. Not that it's a bad thing, just that I don't think they'll actually speak English in the church and may be quite unwelcoming of people who don't go regularly.
I could be completely wrong though but its the impression I get.
