Honestly, I think that since both political camps agree as to the nature of a threat (lefties & nationalists) we'll be able to avoid it. General AI is still hundreds of years away, if its attainable at all. And what people call AI today is just an overused term for "software that detects patterns." It has been hyped a lot lately.
