So what happened to this? It was announced that it was returning and then nothing. I was actually looking forward this one getting an ending.
Beet the Vandel Buster
When was it announced to return? I used to love Beet back in the day.
It already came out. You just need to find a raw and a scans group that is interested.
Well, time to start learning moon I guess.
That's good to hear.
>SQ CROWN
well that's a quarterly magazine so you'll see it in what july?
It came back in the April issue.
Figured there'd be more excitement over this
I missed that, guess no one cares enough to pick it up then user
I'm considering it, I just don't like working on anything licensed.
Where do you get you're raws from?
I bought the magazine.
well shit, going to have to wait for someone to drop them then.
The magazine has a digital release that was already ripped and posted online. The issue had two chapters, one is from ten years ago and was published after Volume 12 but before the hiatus, and the second is new.
I lived this when I was younger
You must have lived quite the interesting youth.
What have these two guys been doing for 10 years anyways? Were hey working on another series?
Why do you care about new chapters when it's not even completely scanlated until the beginning of hiatus.
apparently the artist inada was 'sick'
lotta dem artists get sick.
Oh wow that's awesome I first read this in high school. Glad this is happening.
Artist was sick or injured. Writer went to work on one or two seasons of Kamen Rider.
The 12 volumes on my shelf shudder in anticipation.
Because anyone who's read the series most likely just bought the official releases at some point in the last decade.
I heard he broke his drawing hand, not sure if that's actually the case.
I should mention, is actually a poster that comes with the physical magazine if anyone's interested in getting it.
The only reason I haven't translated these two chapters already is I read the series raw and have no idea what any of the names/terms are in English. If someone has the Viz releases and can check for me, I can try and get it done.
Back of that poster has English names, I don't know if they match up with what Viz used.
I could name check for you if this thread is around in a few hours. Offhand I remember you have
Beet - orange jacket
any other things you would need help with just leave it here i guess.
Kissu - blonde hair
Milfa - red jacket
Poala - Yellow jacket
Guy with mask is called Baron and the larger face is something like Zanga.
Sled == Slade
Grinide == Grineed
can't remember if Hystario got an 'i' out here.
So it'd be Kissu instead of Kiss like in then, thanks. I can go through the chapter and see what else is actually in it, the big one would be their attack names, Tengeki/Meigeki. Literal translation is something like Heaven/Dark attack, there's a few specific attack names I'd have to find.
Broken hand is only a few months to heal, though.
Omg it's actually back? This is huge! Beet the vandle buster is one of my favorite manga! It captures the charm of a Jrpg perfectly
Man I hope the go on to the finish line! I can't wait to have a volume 13 on my shelf
Heaven probably refers to Divine attack.
Divine Attack sounds right. Do you know what the Vandels' equivalent is?
For specific attack stuff on the first few pages, I need the name of his light ball attack from this page at the end of Volume 12, and whatever their 奥義 powerup is. Something like "secret" or "mysticism," I can't remember what page it was mentioned on in previous volumes.
Tengeki is Divine Attack, and has the 5 elements: fire, water, wind, thunder, and light, Meigeki is translated as Dark Attack and has the same 5 elements but instead of light it has sorcery.
Vandel's names are Beltorze, Noa, Rodina, Garonewt, Hystario, Baron and his partner Zanga who is on his head, Grineed, and the rabit is called Shagie
>whatever their 奥義 powerup is
Found it, whatever this page in volume 8 is translated as.
The attack itself is translated to Meteor Shine, and that part there is translated to Hidden Strength
My bad, I meant the bubble on the left. The attack is Meteor Shine, but he calls them something like "dark light balls." Are those just translated as meteors?
The cut off part says meteor shine
>literally just dark light balls
That's actually kind of sad, I was kind of hoping they'd have made it sound cooler.
Anyway, the first pages are probably going to take the longest because of all the combat commentary so I'll post them as I finish each one. I'm not sure I'll even have time to do the whole chapter today, but I'll do my best.
Vandels are just called dark attacks so that is the same.
just so you have it for reference
...
That depends on how badly his hand got fucked up.
I'll go back and finish the redraws later, they're taking too long and I'd rather just focus on translating.
...
So wait did Riku Sanjou come back for real to this?
It's the original author and artist, yes.
Poala hopefully will get a nice fight.
...
You're making my day user. Thank you for this.
I wonder how many volumes it will take to finish the series considering they've already defeated a couple of the seven star Vandels
Why does this series get a warm reception on Sup Forums? I'm honestly surprised that a lot of people on Sup Forums even care about it so much. I own the first 8(?) volumes that I bought waaaaay back in HS (before I even began browsing Sup Forums) so I'm always a bit curious and confused when I see threads pop up.
I've always wondered why no one ever just tracked down a used copy of the issue this chapter appeared in and translated it over the last decade. It's not new at all, they're just reprinting it now because no one who didn't buy that issue has read it.
...
judging by their previous work 15 more volumes
It used to be floating on the internet when it came out, and then the file expired i think. I used to have the chapter downloaded.
See that's a big deal for me because I thought Sanjou left Beet forever to do tokusatsu
>It used to be floating on the internet when it came out, and then the file expired
Oh, so it was scanned. It'd actually be nice if anyone has the file, because this chapter originally had color pages and it doesn't look like they were reprinted unless that's the art they used for the poster.
If i recall correctly there were maybe 2 chapters after volume 12 that came out before it went on hiatus
Becuase it's really well written. Unlike most shonen series they don't waste much time fighting scrubs
The whole series is like if someone took an rpg and turned it into a really good manga
It must have been only this one chapter, since volume 12 ends with 47, this is 48, and 49 is the "new" one. I think they waited a couple issues before officially announcing the hiatus though, they must have thought he would get better.
Very little text now so a bunch of pages incoming fast.
did you ever read dai no daiboken? I personally like it more than beet and it's actually complete.
What's the average amount of chapters to a volume for this series?
Wasn't it a montly release beofre the hiatus? If it's quarterly now does that mean we'll roughly get about 1 volume a year?
Hopefully once volume 13 comes out in Japan Viz won't take long to bring it out in English
I've been meaning to read it but my backlog is huge as it is. Jump put up the first 100 or so chapters for free to promote Beet coming back so I might check that out.
I'm surprised to hear that. I thought the chapters stopped at wherever volume 12 ended.
It's one of those really good series.
...
Yes it's one of my favorite Manga ever but the chance of it ever getting an offical english release are pretty much close to zero which really sucks.
I don't buy nearly as much manga now as an adult then I did when I was a teenager but I'd totally make an exception for Dai if Viz ever decided to bring it out
I remember reading this in SJ many many years ago and liked the RPG world it was set in, but forgot all about it. May pick it back up
Just realized I misread a bit, it should be "and jumped up high when Kissu couldn't see him." I'll fix that when I get around to an actual release.
...
...
That makes sense then. I honestly haven't read them in well over seven years, likely longer.
I haven't. Although I have a huge backlog too so no sense in me adding shit to it.
...
...
...
...
...
Now that I think about it, there should be an official translation for what I have as "ruler of the skies." Anyone know what that is?
...
...
That's pretty spot on since it's just "king of the skies" in the Viz release
...
...
...
...
Oh Shit has it been a days for him already?
After so many years! Now that's a comeback
Technically he made that comeback before the hiatus, but it still works out pretty well.
...
...
I guess, but I didn't even know their was already a chapter that hadn't been published in the volumes until now.
...
...
...
...
I love these type of close but no cigar type hits when the Villan realizes just how close he came to being pwoned
...
Magnificent
Ok what the heck is going on with Beet? How did he suddenly heal like that out of nowhere?
The 3 small orbs of light around his shoulder when he talks about it are a giveaway that it's not normal.
That's the end of chapter 48. 49 is the first new one to be published in ten years, but it's another 40 pages and I don't know if I'll have time to do it all today. I can start and see how far I get, or I can try finishing up the redraws and stuff in 48. I can probably just put both of them on Batoto when I'm done if the thread's dead, but it's been so long there isn't even a page there.
The winged knight probably used his energy to heal him. He exploded into a similar shower of light balls a couple chapters ago.
Thank you very much for translating 48! Who knows how long Viz will take to do it.
After it's been away for so long it's just amazing to me to have new material. If it takes a day or two for you to do the next chapter that's fine by me, since I can't thank you enough either way
Oh yeah that makes sense. Totally forgot because it's been so long. Guess it's time to reread volume 1-12 all over again
