Children are exposed to sex in forms and contexts which they can't process at their level of understanding. They're constantly in contact with peers who often bully them. They're tracked by advertisers and targeted by corporations to form opinions and shopping habits.
Teen suicide is on the rise. Teens are developing neck and back disorders from smart phones. Attention spans diminished, and abilities to interact with people on a face-to-face basis are underdeveloped.
Teens who make up this generation are our future coworkers, managers, and leaders. The wild-west of unlimited access to porn and advertising among children is alarming, nothing short of European regulation will fix it. This isn't an issue that will be fixed by the market; it is a problem created by it.
The era of the open, hobbyist net is over. Mobile net has created a psychological hellscape for people coming of age in the West and I'm not sure we have the will to fight it or the mental health system to address it.
What we can we - as a society/potential parents/future coworkers/ lovers of this generation - do to mitigate the damage? Is the net just TV all over again - don't sit too close and you'll be fine?
What role does government regulation have in ensuring that children aren't exposed to illicit content? What responsibility does the government have in preventing advertisers from targeting the underaged/underdeveloped? In the US it's illegal to use cartoons to sell cigs - why are we allowing algorithms to target the vulnerable?

As for your actual post misses and I have always discussed how we wouldnt introduce that sort of technology to them until they're hitting double digits. My younger cousins many years ago learnt how to buy things on the apple store and they were like 8 years old, and they saw no problem in taking their mothers credit card and running up a $300 bill. The previous gen fucked up by convincing the last decade of parents that technology will make child rearing easier or whatever the fuck and now this is what we're getting. The labour force issue is what bothers me most. Used to be from a perceived lack of productivity but now I realise the potential for an insufficient number of able bodied labourers. Robots wont take all the jobs for a looooooong arse time but scoliosis and a litany of personality disorders will destroy the industries before then.
