Too much fighting, not enough exploration of relationships. How do they expect you to give a shit when a character gets killed. Evil boogeywoman icewoman arguably gets the most fleshing out. The titular character might as well not be featured at all, literally worse than index.
It isn't like having characters sit in a room talking to each other is difficult or costly to animate. It doesn't have to be entire episodes worth of it either, but holy fuck, give us something.
Why did they do this? Telling a story of a "band of brothers" and then not showing us any relationships seems flawed to say the least.

Jaxon Brown
Back to MAL with your "I don't like someone saying something bad about my anime" attitude.
The question still stands. Why didn't they properly develop the relationships between the characters?
Jason Thompson
Here's your reply.
Angel Campbell
they developed the characters more in the manga

Why does leone die in a alley like a dog when she could have gone to a doctor instead of talking to people randomly?
Kevin Hall
because the writing is shit, just like every other anime/manga like it
Only good character I liked was Strings
Hudson Sanders
Not really. Some of them got some decent or even good development (kurome, wave, mine) in the manga, yes, but the rest are the same garbage as they were in the anime.
Charles Turner
i found i actually gave a shit when sheele died in the manga
Kevin Price
I know, but even in that it was lacking.
I realize that it is first and foremost an action/adventure series, but if you are going to have the characters die they should at least make you care about them. Mami dies after having been in 2 episodes, and you actually cared about it happening because it was done well. On the other hand mimi dying after over 20 in episodes akamega barely has an impact because you know nothing about her.
Surely in a series where you are going to be killing several characters the most important thing on a writers to do list is "make audience care about the characters"? Both in the case of the manga as the anumo.
Samuel Sullivan
fuck, i forgot mimi even existed, either way i know i never liked the anime version
Grayson Bell
Well I was more interested in knowing if the studio had a reason to not explore the characters and their relationships more, or if it was just an overall cockup in the writing department. Even the little of it that was in the manga was left out in the anime, and I don't understand why.
Christopher Anderson
at least when the anime split from the manga, tatsumi didn't end up trapped in nazi germany with akame trying to get him back

Easily most interesting and best character in the series. Her relationship with MC is the most explored one in the series (not that it is a lot, but still).
Hold on though, STOP! MC doesn't have a legitimate reason to fight her. Cue EVUHL AT HER CORRRREEEEE
maybe the reason to fight her was that she was on the other side of the civil war and refused to join the revolution
Henry Martin
>buddy >retard canadian alert
Kayden Lopez
and why did she refuse? Oh right, because, as I said, she was "evil to her core through and through", i.e. the writer couldn't come up with a good reason and just basically said "deal with it, my plot doesn't work if she has a change of heart".
Eli Evans
So everything has to go your way for the plot to work, neck yourself
Anthony Sanchez
What?
Dominic Walker
maybe she didint join because she dosent want to fix the country and hope wars will continue?
