I was just reading about incest in my physical anthropology professor's book.
It's like this: even in western civ, the people 100 years ago understood animal husbandry and "good breeding". They literally applied the same techniques to their own offspring.
The only incest taboo that is pan human is mother son, and it seems to predate humanity. Even Chips don't do that. (gross). Everything else is found in this or that culture.
It is true that if the family has bad genetic traits, it will bring that trait out. But in some cultures, you just kill that offspring. It also brings out good traits, like intelligence and principles.
