I didn't expect one of them to immediately make a fool of themselves so quickly, but that's part of what I love about Nina. Not only does she have one of the most complex and fascinating character arcs in Code Geass, but certain people can't stop hating Nina for completely irrational reasons.

Nina is a character who exists in contrast to Millie and who tries to better her through showing greater studiousness and intelligence, but what does that amount to? After devoting so much of herself to her studies, she has, through her learning, made herself nothing more than a weapon to be used by competing empires. The inherent tragedy of her tale is that she realises that she has accidentally backed herself into a corner. She has no option but to accept her new role as an engineer of dangerous technology because that's her only way to retain a sense of worth in absence of meaningful relationships.

Another thing to note is that the technology would have eventually been developed anyway. If not by her, then by someone else.
