Love him or hate him...

Love him or hate him, one cannot deny that Dio was driven to his madness through the violent poverty he was born into and the stressed familial relations in the working class tenements of 19th century London. Yes, Dio would not in fact have become a villain if we lived in a socialist society.

>if you're born a different person you're a different person

wow

It's like you don't even remember Speedwagon

I wish Dio was the born evil type
I'm sick of all those freudian excuses trope

>Dio would not in fact have become a villain if we lived in a socialist society.

wew lad autism the thread

Dio was a villain because he was not named Jojo and his adventures were practical and well thought out, not Bizarre.

You could argue just as much that Dio wouldn't have been a villain if he had been born in Canada instead.

False. I was raised in very similar conditions to dio but i don't like harming animals and stuff. I can't stand hurting people at all. A guy i used to know always said "Situation doesn't make a person, just reveals what they're really made of" and i always thought it was bullshit until recent experiences in life.

TLDR: no.

Did you even watch the series?
>Speedwagon literally says Dio was born evil

...

Dio was born evil.

I disagree. No one other than Dio himself what Dio's upbringing was like. Just because some other guy from the slum says living in a slum is no excuse doesn't make it true.

>he stinks worse than shit
>not "he stinks worse than spew!!"

0/10
dropped

His social background doesn't mean shit since he was adopted by a rich gentleman who gave him a top tier education.

He's just a dick.

Getting adopted doesn't erase previous experiences. His early childhood might've been a stronger formative influence.

yes but by the time his dad died he'd already suffered mentally to a breaking point and went absolute psycho.

>no excuse
excuse =/= explanation

Important distinction. The discussion had so far been a discussion about facts, not legitimizations. "Excuse" refers to legitimizations, not facts.

Diego Brandon doesn't have nearly as worse an upbringing as Dio, isn't quite as evil, but is still evil.

Dio was a rotten egg from the beginning. I feel bad for Jonathan, any of the other Jojos wouldn't have been screwed over as badly as Jonathan was.

you're completely right, I was talking about justification not explanation. What I've said in OP still stands though. I don't think a character like Dio could exist in a socialist society. And that's not even bringing up the fact that upward mobility was his primary motivation.

His terrible childhood is part of the problem, but probably not the main cause. A lot of people with terrible chldhood don't show psychopathic behavior like Dio. IThere's also a huge "brain problems" factor.

While I think that Dio was very obviously shaped by his fuckawful father, there's probably something fundamentally wrong with him as a person from the get go, his dad just made it all so much worse.

If his dad wasn't a self-centered, greedy, alcoholic, worthless sack of shit, then maybe Dio would never have met the Joestars or put on the mask, and never become a monstrous being.

I always felt it was a bit of both, that it was the combination of him as a person, and his upbringing. Then the whole thing with the Joestars happen, he puts on the mask and becomes a vampire.

>inb4 nobody cares who I was until I put on the mask

Only partially, he was still raised by his father for many years before ending up under George's care.

>He's just a dick.
I don't think anyone is arguing otherwise.

>I don't think a character like Dio could exist in a socialist society
Holy shit that's fucking funny that you think that.

how is Stalin at all like Dio?

Pretty much the opposite really, came from a poor background and was originally optimistic but his years under Lenin and his politicization of the Trotsky succession slowly warped him. Gradually he becomes more and more paranoid as he becomes more convinced everyone is plotting against the USSR, which was not far from the truth in some respects.

Think Walter White but wanting to be a strong leader instead of a respected chemist.

>Freudian excuses
Children raised by poor asshole criminals becoming assholes is not Freudian, that's just basic environmental influences.

>pretty face
>sociopathic, paranoid, evil
>killed people, usually out of convenience or for very flimsy reasons (see also paranoia)
>had lots of power

>they're both dicks
>they're both pretty
>one has power by being a timestopping vampire while the other has power by being a communist dictator
Those are some really strong similarities you've got there.

He would've still been a villain. He just wouldn't have been enabled to get up to wacky shit like the Stone Mask and later Stands because he wouldn't have been raised as Jonathan's adopted brother had there been better social welfare programs.

At best you'd maybe get a trouble kid who might parlay his intelligence into legitimate but ruthless business dealings.

Go away Bernie Sanders

A person that was born evil wouldn't take an ass-beating just to keep their dead mother's belongings. Fuck you Speedwagon.

You should meet some Cubans, or if they're still alive, Ukrainians who went through the Holodomor back in the day.
