I've never understood the argument to invest in gold for shtf type scenario. If civilization really did collapse, people would go back to the most rudimentary form of an economy: Bartering.
If I really was scrounging for every last bit of food I could find and keeping track of every bullet, do really think I'm going to give you any of it for a shiny looking bar of metal that might just be shiny enough to trade to someone else later? No, fuck that. Keep your stupid shiny metal. I need my food and bullets.

And with gold, you might be able to get more. There's a chance it might become worthless - but I doubt that everyone would all of a sudden see gold as something without value. Most normies don't think beyond "it's shiny, so it's worth a lot." I'm sure having it would be handy should you need to buy more supplies without bartering any of your existing supplies which you need.

not EVERYTHING is a slide thread. also this is more of a /biz/ thing but i understand it being posted here because if you posted it there those fags would just yell and scream about shitcoins.

I never understood what made gold so valuable.

I mean, it's pretty and shiny....But is it actually WORTH anything? In an emergency scenario there are many things I would rather have than gold, like food, water, gas, supplies, guns

This. If the economy collapses, you want food, guns, fuel, land, and medicine. Some gold might be useful as a scarce resource, but it's not going to save your ass.

Gold is very useful for electronics, same with silver. Other than that, it's pretty and that goes a long way.

>But is it actually WORTH anything?

No, it's only worth what people think it's worth. It's artificially held up by our collective belief in its value. If shit hits the fan, and people continue to see it as valuable, then it is very useful to have. If shit hits the fan and everyone in unison says "fuck gold, it's not important" then you're shit out of luck if you have a lot of it.

>And with gold, you might be able to get more.

lol no

Why not?

"Hello, it seems you have a lot of ammo but no food mate. Would I be able to buy some of your ammunition?"

And if gold is still worth something, they would use that gold to buy food lest they starve to death. Fucking leaves, no one likes you.

I get what you mean my dude.

Honestly though there's going to be someone who cares about Gold, Silver, Diamonds and shit like that for pure aesthetic value. So maybe they'll trade you. My friends grandfather kept Bottle Caps (Pre Fallout days) Gold, Silver and other things to barter for ShTF days.

He also built a mad max style dune buggy with me and my friend but that's not relevant.

It actually had portability in the olden days before paper printing and tech.

Think about it: something you can't just counterfeit easily, distinctive, and soft enough to cut or smelt yourself if you had to make change.

Sailor tradition of wearing a gold earring was to pay for his funeral expenses if his corpse washed up somewhere for example. Links on chains were worn to make small transactions etc.

Jewelry was also your bank sometimes, it wasn't always about fashion.

Factors like that gave this metal value in earlier societies.

Gold is almost universally accepted as a symbol of wealth: it's pretty, and pretty hard to obtain. An ounce is worth 184 hours of minimum wage labor right now for Americans. This drives a lot of people to want it, which in turn causes even more people to accept its value as a commodity money. With this, it's always a welcome solution to balance out trade.

you can't eat gold, if things went apocalyptic
what's so hard to understand

Gold is valuable because it doesn't get affected by much. It retains size and weight, you can eat (small amounts of) it and it will pratically pass straight through you without being absorbed by the body in even trace amounts.

Also there is limited and actually quite small amount of it in the world. Hence it makes a perfect proxy for trade, i.e. money. Even in a post-E.L.E. society you would eventually need some proxy for your trades of necessities as the buyer and seller usually don't have matching needs and surplusses.

NOTE: There is absolutely no need for interest to be earned on posessing said proxy, in fact, value of proxy (i.e. money) not being used should gradually reduce to encourage keeping it in constant circulation and avoid it being hoarded, thereby damaging trade and economic growth.

Gold is valuable to literally every form of life in the universe. You can trade gold anywhere.

Listen to this Mexican. He's apparently been all over the universe, so he knows that a few bits of gold gets you all the ayy pussy you could handle.

bro, do you see any faggots trading gold in these apocalyptic scenario movies? society has collapsed, shit is worth it if you can eat it, or use it. i am talking in extremes

You might as well do away with all your money you have saved up right now then. You can't eat it, right? What's the point of it??

I more or less agree. It has its uses, just not for some mad max apocolypse.

It is good for things like the 2008 recession (or worse). It's value is still relative to the dollar so it needs to have a functional economy to retain value.

People think if there is a complete collapse they will be able to use their gold horde as currency and all I can say about that is "who knows." Personally I don't think hungry, scared, and dying people will give a fuck about gold but there is no way to know, it's kind of uncharted territory. In a perminant survival environment gold has no value, but our collective reverence for gold runs deep, so who fucking knows.

>we need this most favorable element for production of phones which have become self aware

Gold is very chemically stable. It does not corrode or tarnish which gives it engineering application such as conducting electricity while never oxidizing. It's recycling value is very high.

Do you see the whole universe ending in any of those apocalyptic scenario movies, or just the earth faggot?

see

Oh shit i missed that, deep

gold is for buying little things and for the time after collapse for the rebuild.
I know a story from 2. World War. A family gave a diamond collar to a farmer in exchange for a sack potatoes. Later it was worth 800k
So the farmer, who had enough to eat, was 800k richer and had only to invest a sack of potatoes.

very imprtant for a direct collapse scenario is cigarettes and fuel as currency

I stocked up on liquor, cigarettes, coffee, toilet paper, paper pornography, bricks of Mexican marihuana, and tampons. I'll have all your gold soon enough if society collapses. I'm going the Jew route.

>invest in this shiny metal goy
>It's a hedge against the inflation we control
>It's also useful in SHTF so you can make a cell phone
>Can't weather the end of the world without your cell phone

Wtf. The choice isn't gold vs bullets you fucking idiot. It's gold vs dollars. The apocalypse grownups prepare for is financial in nature because that shit's happened historically and its infinitely more likely that you need to flee a country and collapsing economy than to have to fight in the fucking thunderdome.

Plus gold is basically the happenings btc for every major financial institution on earth. So every time everyone says it's happening and it doesn't happen, you make a fucking fortune trading gold.

But any day now you'll get the chance to gouge your neighbors on bullets, mre's, and water and become the biggest dick in the apocalyptic culdesac that I've left for some mountaintop vacation in peaceful territory.

I suppose one could put some gold in a sock and bonk someone who has food, fuel, potable water or ammunition

beyond that, gold would be completely worthless in a shtf scenario. you'd be better off stockpiling liquor or packs of cigarettes

tfw you forgot to bring lighters, and you realize it when the apocalypse happens

This man gets it.

Oh shit forgot the lighters.

Once anything actually crazy starts it will be too late. You'll flee, your shit will get confiscated, and you'll be gulaged for having contraband. You've got like maybe 48 hours to react.

You're just trying to trick us into thinking you don't already have Jew gold under your pillow. I'm onto you.

but as in my example there will be people who have enough of whatever and can afford to trade it against gold.
When the system gets rebuild, they have an advantage then because then gold will have a wort again.
Gold is better than paper money. The latter you could only use as toilet paper or making a fire

Says the American. This literally happened to my family during ww2. You're a fucking idiot.

>And if gold is still worth something

>invest in gold

There are different levels of goldbuggery. The lightest level is that a dollar or euro is a piece of paper that can be made on a government printing press, a bar of gold is real. But then goldbuggery extends to loopy worship of gold.

Gold is a commodity. It also has the requisite properties of a good currency. Look on the internet what properties make a good currency. Portability, uniformity, durability, and divisibility. Gold has these properties. People have used it for thousands of years. It can fill teeth, it can conduct electricity.

So having some gold is good. But any commodity works. Gold is just a good commodity to own as a currency and store of value because it has portability, uniformity, durability, and divisibility. Just consider these properties when you buy a commodity. Because it's more about worry about the collapse of the dollar then worship of gold. So have some commodities for store of value in case dollars ever become worthless. I mean it happened to the Papiermark in Germany. Look it up.

>Grandmother trades her cunt for safe passage
>Says she traded gold

K bro.

You're mostly right. The common person wouldn't be inclined to trade important items like food, ammo, or water for gold. Some people would be interested though, and they're the people with LOTS of food, ammo, and water etc. But that also means they are in the position to possibly take your gold by force.

no one in walking dead said "LETS GO TO FORT KNOX IT HAS GOLD

The gold isn't for SHTF, it's for afterwards when civilization starts coming back.

this is why i laugh at goldfags who hate on bitcoin
>portability

>uniformity
every bitcoin is the same
>durability
you cannot destroy a bitcoin, you would have to destroy every computer on the BTC network in the world
>divisibility
you can divide a bitcoin into 100,000,000 satoshis
also
>scarcity
there will only ever be 16 million bitcoins

tbqh famalam, no electricity no bitcoin

It has more value as a wealth protection tool against hyperinflation when things start to go back to normal. It's value during the actual SHTF scenario would probably be less than that of cash initially in most situations.

During the actual SHTF scenario bullets, guns, coffee, alcohol, and medicines would probably be more readily tradable IF it went for longer than a few weeks. Assuming financial collapse they start with runs on banks a lot of times. Cash would retain a good chunk of its value for a while before the market made an adjustment.

Real simple, real simple...

1) Gold transcends nations and time. After society rebuilds into whatever new form, gold will still have the same value.

2) It's the single most durable, oldest, longest lasting form of money in all of history - ever. It has retained the same value for thousands of years and into ancient civilization, without a single break. It is the most "survivable" form of wealth in existence.

For more info, research gold, its history, and where the power of it comes from.

My family left on a train abandoning their belongings. Kept their bonds and gold. Most bonds worthless. Had enough to open a business in America. This is why America succeeds despite rednecks in forests who advise Jewcoins and bullets over sound investment.

The millions of shekels democrats make with insider trading is fueled by your incompetence because you believe every scary meme about buying guns and bullets.

that's where you're wrong kiddo
eating refined gold dust in your bread gives magical powers

Dumb ass. It's investing for the collapse of the economy not civilization.

you think there will be internet during an apocalypse. After it who knows on which state society would be. Gold would still have a worth, like 1000 years ago.
If it wasn't so expensive I'd buy at least a little bit

It does have practical value in this modern world - gold is found in trace amounts in almost all electronics due to its condictiveity.
It is fantastic in a fiat crash world where we are left with some civilization. However, in a complete SHTF apocalyptic type scenario is is basically useless.

Because the likelihood of your civilization collapsing is far greater than that of all civilization collapsing. Your gold will give you the buying power of someone outside your local calamity.

American students could buy row houses with their monthly allowance of gold-backed dollars in Weimar Germany. You could just buy the outsider's currency if you knew in advance which one would stand but you don't so hold some gold instead.

>Save gold
>Have to trade my gold for bullets
>Haggle them down so I can trade an equal weight of gold for bullets.

>you can't eat gold
Implying.
Haven't you ever looked at gold and thought it would be tasty?

There's demand for it and there's a limited supply of it. If people knew how much gold there really was in the world, though, it would crash. The CIA uses large amounts of gold that have never been acknowledged for a slush fund, as does Japan, and even the Philippines.

Gold is a hedge against all your other assets being confiscated by the government.

If you want to transfer some wealth to your children without it being seized. You end up in a nursing home they make you spend down all your shit.

Having a stash of gold is a good way to pass wealth away from prying eyes.

Bank account, home, investments? All that shit is subject to seizure.

Local hyper-inflation (eg. Wiemar Germany, Zimbabwe, Venezuela) is a lot more probable than a general "end of the world" scenario. As with any investment you should diversify. However, gold has been used as a form of exchange for over 2500 years so it will probably hold its value.

...

>invest in gold for shtf type scenario

Economies collapse in different ways. Hyperinflation is a good situation for owning gold.

Gold is part of a SHTF plan, not the full plan.

This book explains what the Deep State uses gold for, and how they can fuck the gold economy any time they want.

>Gold is part of a SHTF plan, not the full plan.
Not really, no. You should have the vast majority of supplies needed to survive already packed away before the conflict starts. Gold will maybe get you a couple useful items that you could have easily got before shtf before people realize that they can't eat or shoot gold. After shtf nobody will care about gold because they will want something they can use to survive.

Gold is for well after shtf when you're trying to rebuild and people are killing each other over cans of sardines anymore. Maybe you could use gold to trade your way out of the country that shtf is happening in at the border because people who aren't involved will have use for gold.

In a SHTF situation, someone's gotta do something about the millions of pounds of gold in the Federal Reserve building in NYC.

Question: How can we barter services for big things?

For example, I'm a barber. I can see how people would trade food/clothes and other services for having their shit up unfucked, but what if, for example, I wanted to buy a house or property? I'd still need some way to accumulate the fruits of my labor, no one would ever trade a house for a lifetime of haircuts for their entire familly or something like that.

The black and Mexican war lords who seize control of your country after the collapse of the USA will probably go to a gold standard, you will work their fields as a slave until your usefulness is outlived, then will be put down like a wounded horse.

gold isn't for the shtf, it's for a little bit after that. bartering won't last long, it never does. once rule of law is put back in place then gold will be useful again.

If you were in a situation where you were giving people haircuts and looking to buy a house, you would have a functional government of some sort.

One property missed by everyone so far is golds value density. It is a very compact way to store a lot of value I a small space. There may be a lot of other important necessities when the shit hits the fan, but if you already got everything else covered, a few ounces of gold and silver fit in your bug out bag, and a few pounds aren't wasting much space in a vault.

Paper money would become worthless if shtf. Gold would eventually regain it's value, "pre-war money" won't.

If SHTF you're fucked bro. Get a skill that can actually transfer into survivability. No one is gonna be trading food for haircuts and polite convrrsation about the weather or what you did on the weekend

Fuck Bitcoin and Data Mining

I go for the real thing

There will be a new currency by the time society has stabilised enough for people to think about permanent residence. Also, house prices will drop significantly if shtf due to everyone dying.

Meant for

Cool, when the SHTF I'll only be accepting silver, brass or Gold for my Poppy & home brew penicillin. BTFO barterfag

Hoping the Price of Silver will go up soon

I have A LOT of it.....

its valuable because its rare and women love it. so the men who can provide it will have acecss to top tier mates
