If you are going to anyway then read the manga after genshiken and not watch nidaime. The transition is way better and you dont miss the final arc of the first generation.
I haven't watched the anime so I don't know if they fucked Naidame up in the adaptation, but the manga is fine. It is fairly different, and in in some (pretty big) ways less realistic so I can see why fans of the original would be put off by it, but its still good.
I think the main reason it gets shat on by Sup Forums is because it's mainly about fujoshi, who generally aren't looked upon very kindly around here.
After careful reconsideration I've decided against it.
I was talking to the guy that recommended this to me in the first place, and he echoed the same sentiment as you guys.

It's nice. Actually its what got me to read Genshiken. I found Spotted Flower not knowing what it was and after reading it I looked into it and ended up reading Genshiken.

The anime is ok, the problem is the jump between anime genshiken and anime niidaime so you really feel the change, in the manga is way better done (and you have the end of ogiue arc too)

Hato ruined all of the nidaime and the manga for me, it seems to only want to focus on him, and changing the orientation of a pre-established straight character was the last straw.

Pretty much everyone in the original series except for Madarame and any characters with a vagina disappear and never appear again.

Nidaime is shit because of Hato, not because hes there mind you but because nidaime literally becomes about him, even the parts that have to do with Madarame have to do with Hato. All these new characters added and the anime does nothing with them.
The manga is even worse because they literally make madarame gay for Hato.
