Even in spite of this I go to mass and I pray. I ask the Holy Spirit to open me to the truth of his Word and for Christ's mercy. I ask Mary to watch over the child in my wife's womb and to pray for us. I witness the miracle of the transsubstantiation. I bow my head and receive the priest's blessing. I leave and feel renewed.
And suddenly, all those doubts and concerns don't really matter that much, because I know that what I feel inside that church is real.

Well. I've been doing this thing my whole life. I know a thing or two about how to prepare the altar for mass, what the names of those linens on the altar are, how to arrange your funeral (you call the funeral director, who then calls the rectory to arrange the funeral. By "you" I mean your family because you're dead) all the usefull but uninteresting information about day-to-day Churching. What I can teach you though is the stuff I don't know. For instance, Jesus is God's son. What does that mean? Is he biologically half God and half Mary? Are half his genes from God? Or is he more of an adopted son? A man who grew to become perfect as God is perfect? Or is he God on the inside, and man on the outside? Like Superman dressed as Clark Kent? Canonically he was one person with 2 natures, whereas God is one God but 3 persons, which also is hard to think about. Did Jesus literally rise from the dead, body and all? He had a glorified body, which is pretty cool, but is that a different body from the one buried in the tomb? The tomb was empty but that doesn't mean the dead body inside was walking around somewhere. Were the "sightings" of Jesus actual observations of the living fleshy human Jesus walking around, or an experience of him which felt so real that no other description is suitable to describe it? Speaking of death, why is there so much evil? Why is there evil in the first place? Wouldn't it make sense for a good God to only make good, and not evil? If it is necessary to have creatures who love God to do evil, then what about all the evil that doesn't matter? Natural evil is terrible, and doesn't seem to serve any purpose. It may be necessary for God to achieve a greater good, but it doesn't seem to achieve anything, and if it did then I can't e sure that it really would be to create a greater good. That is what I can teach you. I am a devout Catholic. One with many questions. Never have too much confidence in what you think you know about your faith
