asking for proof that something not directly observable nor experienced by all is making the claim that such a thing does indeed exist. stating it doesn't exist does not require proof.
take for example i were to say the earth does not exist, this would not require proof. You could easily prove it does however by throwing a rock at my head.
However, if i were to say air does not exist, substantially more proof beyond taking a mere breath is required to prove it does indeed exist.
it is always the responsibility of those making a claim in the positive to prove it, making a claim in the negative does not require any such proof.

Say you have a cat in a room. One claims it's in there, another says it's not. Both claims can be proven by going in there and seeing if it's there. Atheism simply isn't defensible when it denies something we observe in nature throughout the universe, cause and effect.

claiming there is a god necessitates observable acts of this god, or proof in the affirmative. sure it is impossible to disprove that a god exists, but it's also impossible to disprove that unicorns exist. take for example your claim of a cat existing in a room-the person who say the cat can easily claim that the cat was indeed there but is now gone, and that would be impossible to disprove given the suspension of logic, which is often required for believe in a god.
