AfD numbers could be easily lower more than 5-10% what they will get in election. 1) Poll numbers depend on who are asked. 2) People are still scared to voice their "far-right" views in public so there is good chance of shy AfD votes. 3) Polls are cooked in purpose for lower number AfD support to demoralize their voters to not to go voting because it doesn't matter since AfD has so low support according to these polls. I don't think this tactic will work anymore. People are too fed up and are reaching to point where they have nothing to lose so they will vote for more extreme alternatives.

Currently the ceiling is whatever the AfD will get (I'd put that at 12-14%), but that's also because the ruling parties take a fake hard stance to stop themselves from bleeding voters to the AfD. Once their act is up and the Familiennachzug happens, the AfD could rise to 20-25%. It's all uncertain, though, since nobody knows how things will go down from there, and we might see the "huge social changes" you mentioned.
