I don't get the hate towards Usakame. It's very cute and enjoyable.

I didn't watch more than 3 episodes of Crane Girls or JK Meshi so I don't count them.

First of all, to call L'Anse aux Meadows a "settlement" is a stretch of the truth. I've been there, and technically it was just a pit-stop for ships that required repairs. The viking explorers referred to the North American continent as Vinland and probably tried to colonize other places besides L'Anse aux Meadows, but they did not have much success because of the natives.
