The betrayal is the culmination of that short arc with the key of whatever. It's the end, it's over now.

A show like PSG gets a sequel because a successful studio feels like taking a break and cutting loose every now and then. It's not a show you make a sequel of because it deserves a sequel. The reason why PSG will never get a sequel is because Gainax is old and busted.

Characters are okay, it's fine on a technical level, but it's very angsty, offers little escapism or catharsis and doesn't really draw you in. All it does is make you feel bad. It's exploring 7 flavors angst, the anime.
It's a very shallow attempt at making something DEEP, and it doesn't even have a chuuni veneer. It has a Trigger veneer.
