What depth are you specifically referring to? The anime has only adapted 4.5 chapters so far so you have a very limited number of examples to show here.

No it at all user. Remember that out of nowhere asspull powerup that had zero foreshadowing during the Basara fight? Well now they can have a reasonable explanation for that since Seigen is there to infodump their abilities when they're about to save Mayura.

By "they" I mean Rokuro and Benio

We had a much better understanding of the repercusions of MC's past tragedy in his life and everyone else's at this point in the manga than in the anime.
Because of this, he does come off as generic and bratty in the anime, while in the manga I didn't really had that impression of him.

I do agree with the asspull part, but as for the characters, the fight with Basara is a turning point in their relationship, giving that big reveal that much impact.
