Ho Chi Minh reached out to the US immediately after the Pacific War ended and said "hey if you help us we probably could not go full commie on you" but France was like "nah fuck that, hey new best friend America don't listen to those guys they're just backwards peasants we'll take care of them." and the US was too busy with the rest of the world to look into it further.
