How? Politically, sure, there's tenuous mutual gain, but the vast majority of Russia's exports go to countries that would never side with China. They have nothing to gain from risking nuclear war, especially if WW3 doesn't happen till the mid-2020s. The EU will use the instability as a pretext to Federalize and stay neutral while they deal with quashing internal resistance. Unless the US explicitly declares war on Russia, it will have no reason to pick a side.
