Marriage serves the purpose of legally binding together a man and a woman who want to start a family together. The question is why should there be same sex marriage? They can't have kids, what is the benefit to society?

Marriage, and the benefits it brings, are meant to influence couples into building families. Gays will (most likely) never produce children. The only purpose gay people have for marriage is to better handle the legality of asset ownership. Which can be accomplished without marriage.

Let's not pussyfoot around the issue - there is a significant religious/cultural population in the country that disagrees with the idea of fags getting married. 'B-but you don't get to tread on my rights' is a fucking bullshit arguments because you don't have rights - you're trying to get them. As somebody who is not religious I think that the normalisation of fetishes has been pushed far beyond the argument of traditionalism, we are now entering philosophical levels of fucked as a species if we have be having global debates on this.
The stubborn rejection of moral limitation is going to push entire populations into regressive to a bizarre neoprimitive state.
Should the Yes camp win this ballot by an outstanding majority as predicted, the perception by Australians and the government in the future will be that the voice of the people is not necessary and having debates on morality.
This is as much about strengthening and expanding federal influence as it is deconstructing the family unit.
