I'm sure there's much more to the story than just a demon's side perspective.

If it was something related with the demons powers, then why Guila and Hendy weren´t able to do so. The demon blood gave them a boost to their original magic powers, it´s only when they stop looking human or the mark appears that they become able to use demon stuff (dark matter, hell flames, etc)
