The Silent Generation came next, those who grew up during world war 2, but didn't serve in it, they only saw the horrors of war as young children, the beatniks of this generation were the real inspiration behind the anti-war sentiment attributed to the Hippies of the boomer generation. Boomers grew up during the rapid growth of the post war era economy and saw their standard of living increase by the year until they became adults when it began to stagnate. They also grew up during the cold war so communism was enemy #1. So they were pampered and only care that their gravy train seems to be going a little slower than what they were used to growing up. They don't care about any generation but their own and don't give a shit about leaving the planet habitable after their death. As far as they're concerned if the world were to blow up the day after they died it'd be perfect. Gen X grew up experiencing the hypocrisy of the Baby Boomers, going from flower child hippies to Neocons who only gave a shit about themselves over the course of the 70's. As a Result, Gen X is cynical as fuck and it's their defining trait. Millennials grew up during a rapid growth in technology especially in computers and internet, so they're much more globalist (having been connected to the rest of the world over the internet for most of their lives) and optimistic. They also grew up AFTER the cold war, so they don't fear communism and are in fact, curious about trying it out.
Whatever they want to end up calling gen Z, it's a backlash against Millennials, as Gen X is a backlash against Boomers.
