NETHERLANDS - School Project

Hello, I am doing a school project where we have to research a country and talk about their cultural rules, norms, and how they communicate.

I would appreciate it if anyone from the Netherlands could tell me a little about yourself, your fellow Dutch, and the society in which you live.

This is just to supplement other research and info I've found online. I just want to get a better understanding of Dutch customs/traditions and personalities.

Thank you.

Just bitch about how Walloons are subhumans and how their old flag was better, that's all the Swampkrauts ever seem to post about.

Amsterdam is a shithole, don't go there. We were the first to legalize gay marriage. We celebrate ''Sinterklaas'' which is racist because of blackface or something. We are without government sort of for some 100s of days. We don't ban weed and our usage is a bit below other western countries. Tallest people by average. Main sport is soccer but we suck at it now. Most famous sporter is Johan Cruyff who died some time ago. Biggest harbour in Europe is in Rotterdam. A lot of people live below sea level.

just out of the top of my head.

What would you say would be the most difficult/uncomfortable aspect of the culture/society as a tourist visiting? What are the biggest cons are about the country?

"Boven de rivieren" : Calvinism
"Onder de rivieren" : Catholicism (Carnaval)

Koning's dag is in April (Celebration of their monarchy) people go all out.

Depending on where you are in the Netherlands the traditions, use of language and the way people are vary a lot.

For example, a big city like Amsterdam is very crowded and has a lot of different cultures, Rotterdam as well and people tend to be more liberal and progressive.

However in the north and east of the country (rural areas) people tend to be more conservative, have these local traditional parties, know eachother on a first name basis etc.

When it comes to behaviour there are some stereotypes as well. In the north the people tend to be more quiet and stoic while in the south there is carnival and people are more outgoing.

I like the traditions the netherlands has. However the last few years there has been a lot of debate about the whole sinterklaas thing we have. Some people have been saying it is racist but for now it isn't going anywhere. Yesterday we had "prinsjesdag" (third tuesday in september) in which the king gives a speech about how things are about to go down the coming year after being driven around in a golden coach.

Im going to be in Amsterdam next week. Any suggestions on where to find the best coffeeshops?

we can be a bit direct, which sometimes can seem like we're unfriendly.

everywhere basicly. Red light district is worth the trip to be honest, and that's coming from someone that hates Amsterdam.

how's utrecht? possible study destination.

There are some good ones on the Ferdinand Bol Straat and around (area called De pijp) (Not tourist traps). In the Centre there are Kadzinski, Hills Street Blues, 36, and a hell of a lot on the Dam straat.

Green house and boerenjongens.

Nice, i'll check those places out.

Expensive compared to anywhere else in the country. Just don't go to Bulldogs
Honestly you should go somewhere else in Holland, Amsterdam sucks it's just full of shitskins and drunk trashy englishmen

It has a bit of flouride, but it mainly contains enzymes that inhibit the sugar to be used by the carious bacteria. You are not supposed to eat tootpaste btw.
