You shouldn't be. It's a series where a BIG part of its appeal is its very much sexualized loli heroine. If only for that people will be biased to dislike it from the getgo.
You could see it as a detriment but I don't think Japanese fans will care (in a negative way, at least) so I don't care.
Why would you expect MAL to have good taste? It's also a very new series. I think even BNHA took at least one or two volumes to really take off. Here's hoping that the first arcs are impressive enough that it stays in Jump.

Not really. BNHA, just like Shokugeki no Souma, sold over 70k in it's first week with it's first volume.
But i wouldn't fear Takuan to get cancelled. Toriko and Nisekoi don't have much time left, things like Hinomaru, Dancing Midgets and Mononofu still sell like shit and Kimetsu doesn't seem to be doing that good in the first 2 day of sales. If Takuan can reach 30k with it's first volume it should already be safe for the next 4-6 months.

I wasn't explicitly talking about sales, more about general hype and positive reception. Sales for the first volume of the manga are certainly part of it but with only a handful of published chapters I think we'll have to wait and see for a little longer. For now there's only the weekly rankings, fanart, and general buzz in Japan that give us any clue. Western opinions are inconsequential to the success of this series.
