It will take some time and research to learn which genes need to be edited to produce effective results, but in theory the CRISPR-cas9 system is totally legit.

Even if you do figure out the combinationtion of genes that are activated and the amount of mRNA transcribed and protein translated to say, grow a salamanders limbs back, making a system to copy that would be unbelievably complex and the localization would probably be impossible to control on fully developed mutli-cell organisms.

I don't know about limbs..but they can 100% take a biopsy sample of you, take some stem cells and "print" an organ for you with a 3d printer. then they exercise the organ so when they plant it in you its healthy enough to work with your body. This is not a myth.

I think we can just trust the Chinese government to take care of that. Probably at some point they will find that highly intelligent people are harder to control, and then they'll shutdown the program and forbid smart chinks.
