His biggest contribution was killing Lelouch, and even that was fucking planned by Lelouch. Suzaku is worthless, his strong convictions paired with his total lack of action makes me detest him.

Yeah no shit, there was a war going on. He needed to join the winning side and be of as high a rank as possible once the whole thing was over so that he'd have influence over the direction of the new system.

Except for the part where having power within the system allowed him to do the decent thing when the opportunity allowed him. Suzaku isn't perfect, but he really isn't any more flawed than Lelouch. They both fuck up and mentally implode pretty hard.

But Suzaku was just a fantastic warrior, not a fantastic thinker. He couldn't do what Lelouch could himself.

If Euphemia hadn't died, most of Suzaku's goals would've been realized without a bump in the road, but he bound himself up in her so tightly that when she was removed from the picture violently, he started deteriorating hard. The fact that he was still able to draw back and recognize when he was deteriorating and act according to what he thought Euphemia's wishes would be is pretty impressive.

The new system was more or less the total subjugation of the 11s. There was no place for him in the upper echelons and only exceptional circumstances let him beat Knight of One. If everything went according to plan, Suzaku would be a low-tier commander who only knows how to fight. Lelouch's constant exacerbation of the conflict was funnily enough Suzaku's only window to be of any use.

He lacked pragmatism and was an idealist fool.

Which is precisely why Subaru changed teams. He had reached a point where either side could win and realised that he'd be more effective teaming up with Lelouche, even though he hated him. You can get more level-headed and pragmatic than that, and it doesn't even conflict with his ideals, either.

The point is, he needlessly obstructed Lelouch because he felt his way was better. The reality was, he was an ineffectual pissbaby. At no point did he think "you know what, letting the Japanese be Japanese instead of seeking to dominate them sounds like a good idea".

He stabbed his own dad and was basically the final piece in the subjugation of the Japanese. Part of me wants to think he's just a diehard Imperialist, straight from the word go. Should I watch Touch if I've already watched and loved Cross Game? I've been looking for something to fill the gap but everything I watched after it didn't quite cut it for me (Toradora, Golden Time, Kokoro Connect, AnoHana). Maybe it's because it was my first romcom anime and I didn't have anything to compare it with but I absolutely love Cross Game, definitely in my top 10 series.

You can at least give it a try but Touch is a long show, chances are you will not make it through. Probably took me over two years to finish it, watching a couple of episodes every now and then. Of course, like most long shows it picks up towards the end but getting there could be slow.

Then again, H2 has been taking me even longer despite being shorter, but that show is not nearly as good as Touch and Cross Game.

Griffith is one of those characters where you can hate him, but under the microscope it's hard to haaate him. Because he's a very human character. Dude was tortured for a year and maimed in pretty much every way conceivable. There couldn't have been much of the original character left by the time he did what he did.
