Every kid is now some sort of autist and will see a counselor 1x a week or 1x per DAY and bill the state at $150/hr minimum. A legit dealer will sell you a car no problem. New credit is not the same as bad credit. If you want a 5k -9k car it's all your's
then you need something new, your price range is in within the used car spectrum which won't be financed unless the dealership does in house financing which will be a high APR because that's the only way they make money on such a deal. so you always need money down on that unless you have a face to face deal where they take a chance on you

Yes, as someone who has always bought cars in cash, it gives you even more purchasing power than a pre approved loan. Wring his balls and be prepared to walk. Don't consider your budget when you look at the car, you don't want to spend near that budget, you want the car for half of what you got. Have 5k and want a 5k car? 3k. You have all the time and the leverage, also cold call dealerships or craigslist cars. Ask if they will drop in price. If they do even a bit consider going to look at it. You already got them to drop the price with almost no investment involved.

As much as it blows, use public transportation if you can. Owning a vehicle is punishing when you only make 20-30k a year. The payments are bad enough, but you also have to factor in maintenance. A set of tires alone is gonna hurt, a major breakdown can flat out destroy you financially. Modern cars are also full of retarded electronic shit and sensors that fuck up, so when it comes time for state inspection a stupid dashboard light is gonna cost you $1000+, which is brutal at your income level.

This. I bought an 02 Lincoln Continental that had been repaired after hitting a deer for under $4k CAD. Built like a tank in every good and bad way. Had about 52k km on it originally.
