XYZ was terrible, Synchro was the start of degeneration but at least there were some limits, it could have been saved by good design.

XYZ is piss easy and overly focused on a handful of ranks, it's absolute shit. And they've just kept accelerating power creep by making more and more generic Rank 4s.

Xyz gave every deck access to the extra deck, reviving old archetypes like harpies, spirit tamers, etc.

But what if we Synchro summoned a whole bunch of big monsters and used them to XYZ summon an even bigger monster?

What incenctive would the players have to do something like that?

Xyz were fine at first because they had drawbacks to using up their overlays. But Konami soon stopped giving a fuck

What if they remade the original series and had Yugi and Kaiba etc. playing modern decks that had xyz and Synchros?

Protip, if you can't adapt to a shifting metagame, you should probably play a game more suited to your intelligence, like tic tac toe

it's not so much a shifting metagame people have a problem which as much as it is them not liking that konami feels the need to introduce another stupid gimmick every 5 years or so to keep the game fresh even though it's never been particularly good
