I didn't think it was that good. Lots of Sup Forumsnons think it's good. That's mostly awkward rationalization, I think. Anno's motif of bumbling youth is overwrought to such a point that it overruns any scant plot. It's far too abstract for my inclinations. I want a satisfying plot and an intriguing cast. Not an illustration of Anno's lunacy.
>overruns
fuck, i fucked up
Gay.
Ayy-vangeliyon
It's like, the opposite of abstract though. It deals with earthly psychological and social concerns of post-bubble Japanese society and individually, with depression.
If it was all about Instrumentality and the philosophy behind it, it'd be abstract, but it isn't..
Prtntious
It deals with those themes in a very abstract and often harebrained way. It doesn't integrate them into plot and character, it just sort of spills them onto the screen.
You clearly haven't actually watched the show.
Shit taste.
Dumb Kids pilot big ugly humans in armor to fight off kaiju and prisms and what not, It runs out of cash at its final part though.
Shinji, climb in your robot.
I'm a good work guy
Truly Japan's crowning artistic work.
It only does that in the last two episodes (and even then it's still connected to the characters by way of it being monologues by said characters).
