RON! DORA DORA!

>zawa zawa zawa

RINSHAN KAIHOU

seriously though what lunatic came up with this game and do you think it was a hard sell initially

Don't worry, not even the author know.

...

Don't worry, Saki mahjong is about power levels and asspulls.
It's a 'Wow you got the tiles you needed you must be so good'

...

...

...

...

Do you know how to play mahjong? Even if Saki is all about specializing in certain types of hands, it's useful to know what they're doing. Try reading up on mahjong or watching/reading Akagi. It has a fairly basic explanation of mahjong as it progresses.

Don't read it unless you want to be stuck for years

>Platypus

Now Im even more confused.

You don't need to know whats happening. Just enjoy the cute girls playing Mahjong with weird powers.

>480p
I don't know what the fuck is going on

Kill yourself.

oh boy I can't wait to read about Regoras and Gimri

Pretty sure Saki S1 DVDs only came in 480p
Also, while most of the time it's all about superpowers, sometimes there's great "real" mahjong scenes in Saki, like the retard master's introducing scene.

>Pretty sure Saki S1 DVDs only came in 480p
Yeah, gonzo completely fucked up the BD iirc.

I do think knowing a little about it helps with appreciating just how retarded some of the powers are, like monkey's. I think that's part of the enjoyment, seeing what other bullshit Ritz can come up with.

PON or CHI means
>steals a discarded tile, skips to the next person's turn and finishes part of a hand
RON means
>i stole your discarded tile to win the hand get rekt fool
RIICHI means
>i bet 1000 points i can win this hand u fukin hacks
KAN means
>Saki is about to do some crazy combo bullshit and win

That's all you really need to know, if that. There are dozens of different hands and special yaku rules, but what I said above will be enough to get by on.

that helps tremendously

First time watch this, i pretend to watch card game show without know rule and just enjoy the cool stuff

When I learned how to play Mahjong I apparently was playing the Chinese way so when I watched Saki I had no fucking idea what was going on.

>mahjong
>card game

...

Only ever knew Singaporean mahjong, but the fundamental parts are common across all variants so it's not that confusing. Japanese mahjong just has riichi and dora.

...

Scoring is retarded as fuck in Japanese variant, but even growing up with Chink mahjong, the nip version has much more strategy involved.

I thought fukumoto was supposed to be pretty good

>sometimes there's great "real" mahjong scenes in Saki
Or the entirety of Shinohayu.

Don't ever play this fucking kusoge, you'll regret it later.

Saki is boring if you don't know the rules. I don't know how you guys can like it without knowing them.
I say learn the rules, play the game yourself and then watch, it can be surprisingly fun.
Akagi is the same story, without knowing the rules you can't really appreciate the level of bullshit that is going on.

Ten is still the best mahjong manga out there.

>Wow you got the tiles you needed you must be so good
That's exactly how mahjong works faggot, there's no skill involved in this piece of shit.

>there's no skill involved in this piece of shit

>there's no skill involved in this piece of shit
>not understanding nash's law and probabilistic strategy
lol what a noob - come play poker against me some time so I can take all your money ;)

Nice reading comprehension retard

...

I'm 12 episodes in and look at this. I just wanted some lesbians.

You can't outsmug me.

WELL PLAYED

HERES MY NETX DRAW 1

oh shit

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII-PIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN

Isn't Saki that one thing that pretends to be about Mahjong but everyone just ends up jerking off to it? Or is that just the one character? You know, my son.

What mahjong move is it called when you go super saiyan?

Why don't you watch a few episodes and find out?

But yeah, Saki is about mahjong playing thinly veiled nopan lesbians.

>Or is that just the one character?
Jerking off to a character? Can't see why someone would do that.

>Saki is about to do some crazy combo bullshit and win

Now I get why Saki is so appealing, her opponents are trying to play Mahjong, Saki is playing Storm!

Kan. Mou ikkou kan. Mou ikkou kan. Tsumo, chinitsu toitoi sanankou sankantsu akai dora rinshan kaihou. Kazoe yakuman.

She does like her kantrips.

...

>her opponents are trying to play Mahjong, Saki is playing Storm!
That's pretty much it, and it's even better when Teru shows up. Her combos exponentially improve from hand to hand so she completely and utterly wrecks the competition. If you ever enjoy occasionally watching a sport game where one side annihilates the other, then Saki is for you.

My mom taught me how to play mahjong it's fun to gamble your allowance vs your family members. Probably the only time we actually spent togethe...

Well I can see two boners. Can't you?

too bad Yugi

How can you not know how to draw a tile? Its a square box with curved edges. There is a carving on one side. Thats it.

you are now pregnant

I've seen Saki over three times and that scene honestly makes me diamonds.

How does Saki fare in contrast to Akagi?
Do the characters in Saki show any kind of weakness? Though I don't know about Mahjong, I think I got the basics down after watching Akagi.

Basically Mahjong is all about mindfuckery, hand tile crafting and intercepting the playstyle of the opponents. I like that.

It's magical superpowers the anime. Complete opposite of Akagi.

Akagi mahjong is like deathnote
Saki mahjong is a mix between yu-gi-oh and DBZ

If Akagi is poker, Saki is yu gi oh. With lesbians.

We need an anime about chess.

Behind the flashy veneer of superpowers and lesbians, Saki's mahjong is just as realistic as Akagi's, if not moreso. All players in Saki use real-world strategies in hand formation and defense, with the superpowers acting as an additional element of strategy in the way they interact with each other. Akagi, in contrast, is all about doing the exact opposite of the smart thing to do and having it magically work out because Akagi himself is just such a genius with unfathomable insight. Characters in Saki also actually have personalities and get development.

I'm not saying Saki is a masterpiece or anything, but it always gets seriously underrated by people who don't know how to play mahjong or who have an irrational aversion to cute girls.

Draw one and show us.

>No one knows what Akagi is doing.jpg

>implying luck isn't a real life factor

Kikoenakatta?

Washizu Iwao

gamedesign.jp/flash/mahjong/mahjong_e.html

You can now start learning. But don't worry. You can finish the anime without knowing shit about mahjong.

But once you do start playing. Watch it again.

>more realistic
>one character can see the future
>one can always rinshan kaihou on demand
>one always gets a double riichi
>one always wins by haitei

Saki is fun but let's not pretend it's realistic in any sense.

>this entire post

>superpowers acting as an additional element of strategy

Shoot yourself. Akagi with all the retarded luck in the world still manages to be a more realistic approach to mahjong than Saki characters. Character development? Did you even watch the same show or are you mixing up the reality with your doujins?

>We need an anime about chess.

Only if the MC is a cute half-russian with silver hair.

i bet you think poker requires skill too.

sort out your shit fucking taste is whats going on

would you like a noose

What the hell does the policial climate in Eastern Europe have to do with the 'Otaku era'?

It's a classic from the 1980s, that's why.

This guy gets it, Akagi is just like Saki.

Can I just watch this for gay girls or will I end up a mahjong addict?

youtube.com/watch?v=J8E-FYefeFo
It's fun to watch, but I would have calmed down for Toki.

Not going to argue in favor of pureskillfags, but both boil down to managing your chances and interpreting your opponents' behavior.

So yeah, mahjong and poker both require some skill, but it's the skill not to fuck yourself over. If everyone is at roughly the same level, luck is the dominant factor again.

YOOOOOOOOOOOO

We need an anime about a pure skill game. Like checkers or chess.

>checkers
>chess
>pure skill
Maybe in the past.

>blaming luck for being bad

Don't do this.

Why not Hikaru no Go? Unlike chess, Go has actually figured out a method to factor in the benefit of going first in terms of scoring for a match.

Would you let your son play mahjong dressed like this?

Now I'm even more convinced that an Uno manga might actually work.
