How do you guys keep playing your instrument without quitting? I've been playing piano half-assedly coming up on a year now but whenever I try to learn fundamentals or complete method books I become very bored and unmotivated and want to quit. On the other hand, when I spend a few weeks learning a song I actually like, I don't feel like I've actually improved at anything but that specific song.
I really don't want to quit, but don't know how to proceed at this point.
Learn more songs. Im sure you'll be required to learn some skill to play more challenging songs. And when that time comes, practice.

Join an amateur band, even if you're lazy you will be constantly pushed to learn new materials, which develops your playing.
Playing a variety of songs will improve a large set of skills and also keep things interesting. Imagine the different skills needed to play rag time, jazz, classical pieces, and anime OPs/EDs. Don't bitch out on the fundamentals though. They build a foundation that will make learning music easier in the long run.
Thanks for the advice, I suppose I will try mostly just songs that I like for now with a bit of fundamentals.
Playing pieces that I like is fun enough for me and so not quitting is easy. The difficult part is actually practising things that aren't as fun like scales and other exercises.
