People are diversifying their social media accounts more and more. Years ago when it was at its peak, people used Facebook for everything. Photos, videos, IM, sharing their ideas. But recently other platforms have been stealing the market. Instagram for their photos, Snapchat and Youtube for their videos and they can share ideas on Twitter or Reddit. Facebook has one real purpose now: Free IM. It is very hard to generate shekels from that.

Maybe I use Facebook wrong but I feel it doesn't help you "connect" with people from your past. But you just add them become a passive observer of their life through a feed. Its gets tiresome after all and you just pull the plug and leave the site.

The fallacy of this stable point of contact though is the lack of pressure to act on reconnecting in real life. If you get a phonecall from a ex friend or family you have to act on a decision right there if your gonna see them again. If you don't the lead goes back cold/dead, then its a like a game of tennis, after that phonecall its up to you to make the next phonecall, if you let too many weeks slip by without doing that they'll think you weren't interested.
