Megazone 23 is fucking retarded and bad and that line was deeply cringeworthy. The fact that the extremely insular "old school sci fi anime" clique considers it a classic but then looks down on silly fun escapist stuff like Golgo 13 or Araki's Baoh or anything they find gross based on their extremely prudish standards shows how wrong they are about everything.
MZ23 wasn't even well consistently well drawn and animated. It overall lacked any polish in terms of inking and coloring despite being the kind of thing that would benefit from being shiny and pretty (unlike say Ashita no Joe or Fist of the North Star where looking sketchy and dirty is fitting) and the Anno scene was some of his least fun key animation ever. The action scenes near the end were pretty good but I was too annoyed by the rest to enjoy it.

I'm just butthurt over the huge amount of fun old OVAs & movies that get shit on because they're silly while Megazone gets tons of praise. I might have liked more about it if I watched it in a different context but the main thing I took away from it was "god damn old-school western anime fans have dumb arbitrary hivemind taste".
