Ok, I know it's LARPing. But why couldn't this be a replacement sport for baseball, football and basketball? It's European culture, teaches toughness and resilience, is physically taxing, and teaches a fighting skill. Why not?!

Because the weapons are not allowed to have any weight
So it's basically wrestling with "weapons" and teams who use their "weapons" the least tend to get the furthest, since you can just ignore their sword, let it hit you, grab the other guy and knock him over
You've got a good point. However, I've been watching a few fights today and seem some people get pretty jacked up from some weapon hits. I don't think your point is a good enough reason for it to not catch on thought.
It is not LARPing you retard, it's HEMA. How fucking stupid you are? I have never participated on neither of those and I know the difference because I am not a retard.
>However, I've been watching a few fights today and seem some people get pretty jacked up from some weapon hits.
Due to the armour the weapon hits do basically nothing.
If you wanna be a knight, just look at HEMA.
It's pretty hilarious how the most popular winning move is the drop kick.
>Because the weapons are not allowed to have any weight
damn, in some of the videos looked like proper weighted swords
Seems pretty cool, but then there's already boxing.
>It is not LARPing you retard, it's HEMA. How fucking stupid you are?
You are very, very wrong.
The shit in the OP has nothing to do with HEMA, fingolian user.
That's just for show, they are extremely light to avoid injuries
In HEMA, actual HEMA, you fight with real weapons, so a sword is an actual sword there, though people don't sharpen them if they intend to use it for sparring of course.
So you're saying edges are left dull to, say, about 1.6mm or so?
It's not an organized sport yet, so rule-sets are rare and most clubs do it by eye and usually just ignore the edges of practice swords.
The "armour" is getting better and better, people used to have to use that gay japanese shit, but nowadays there are manufacturers just for Hema, so while people tend to get injured there from time to time it tends to be something like a really bad bruise or a broken wrists and basically never cuts.
Easton-sempai has literally all you'll ever need to know by now
He's a veteran and teaches classes himself in England, pretty nice lad, if you're ever there during holidays you can just chime in and say hi

I participate in a sport very similar to this.
It increases physical fitness, and martial ability.
I'd like to see it become a more mainstream sport.
Other forms of historical based fencing as well.
>Why not?!
because it
>teaches a fighting skill
It's fun
...
Make it happen dingus. This is a good idea to actually have whites create their own culture again.
>I participate in a sport very similar to this.
So, LARPing?
Looks like there's already some clubs in my area. I'll have to check one out.
if people died you know this would be popular as fuck
i would definitely watch and gamble on it if there was a risk of injury or death.
Some injuries in this video. Broken foot, broken hand.
youtube.com
This dude gets knocked out.

i still can't believe that niggerball is the most popular sport in the world
literally dogshit
wait 90min and expect 1 goal
plus no one dies
There's some yearly tournament thing that happens in Europe similar to this and I think either last year or the year before that a Finnish guy accidentally paralyzed some guy with a hit to the back of the neck
>still no deaths
USA BTFO
So, the sports pretty young. I'd give it some time.
Why do they even have "weapons"?
LARPing
There is actually a tournament in Europe taking a place every year. Not sure where. I know that russians on 2ch make a series of threads every year when it happens, including a lot of webm's, pictures and shit like that.
so i watched the video and i'm really fucking confused
what's the point of using weapons?
you can't knock someone over with a sword
why not just get a shield and ram those niggers
It's not a useful fighting skill. The best org in the US for this is the SCA and from my experience, they are not very impressive.
I'm sure there are some good sword fighters in the bunch but they are very very rare.
I practiced kendo for a few years. I was good but not great and I was able to completely decimate an entire sca club at one of their own practice meets. They were all boasting about how kendo wasn't real fighting and it wouldn't stand up to what they were doing. They STFU really fast when not one of them could land a single blow.
If you wanna learn fighting, Gracie Jujistu is great for hand to hand and kendo for swordfighting. There are other weapons based training but none that are as widely spread. Jugo do pau and escrima are pretty cool but as far as discipline, SCA is really bad and completely useless.
>muh secret Chinese ninja martial arts
just do mma you moron
there are no mma champions that train retarded chink bullshit
better to do jousting
those blunt weapons are useless, its just as effective to punch them with your fists than use those weapons.
see here
Da fug are on about.
>implying swords and warhammers are heavy
i've never heard bjj refereed to as that so i assumed it was some chink nonsense
I can't even...
>implying implications
Most swords aren't super heavy, but they are still way heavier than any of the weapons that are allowed in those tournaments you retarded motherfucker. Read the fucking thread before you try to be a smartass
it's fun
i just wish they'd do something about barrier-holding
>kendo for swordfighting
Literally just do HEMA man, it's based on actual treatises and the closest you can get to real fighting with a sword, kendo is for feggits
Plus, the weapons that would do the most damage such as war hammers are banned. I just read that in the rules. Probably for a good reason.
But regardless, it's called 'sport' for a reason. Sports aren't 'intended' to be deadly.
You will never escape Chad, user.
You can't escape what you already are.
It's a pity the fights almost always devolve into just grappling and kicking, the actual swords seem all but useless.
I was talking to some organization guys who said someone from their team got some fingers cut off at a "war of nations" competition. So they may be dull, but theyre still dangerous
Lets just bring back gladiator battles to the death. Volunteers only so they can't bitch about human rights.
>tfw I would unironically watch this
Am I just a terrible person?
It will be reborn and a great show, in our lifetime. I plan on it.
I like the digits. But how would we incentive participation?
everyone I have met involved in this is either a nu-male hipster faggot or plain and simply a hipster faggot of the kind that ruin everything, such as craft beer
those with the death penalty from around the world. those who win get to live slightly longer than those who don't
No, not at all.
Like PUBG, but with criminals
each battle you win you get amenities in prison. and as you hold more victories you get equipment and weapons to fight other contenders. non prison contenders can bring in any weapons barring ranged ones they like.
not enough volunteers then those on death row or with murder or rape charges are sent out as chaf.
large sums of money generated by selling adds
winner gets more
but losers family gets set for life
There are a lot of muderous violent people with no outlet. A large purse for victory should be plenty. And it would cut back on random attacks and killings because psychos can just live the gladiator life.
Wouldn't work. You would have to promise commuted scentences or freedom and no non prisoner wants that.
I'd be interested if they actually killed each other. As is it's just cumbersome wrestling.
Gimme bloodsports.
But it's cool.
Would watch/10
Whatever dude. HEMA is sloppy as shit. I can hit a one inch square on one of the most difficult spots of the body with speed and massive force. I have to do that to be successful in the sport. Anyone trying to get good in kendo has to be fast and very precise. What I've seen from HEMA is not very impressive as far as skill goes but it is still young so it'll probably get better. If you are looking for skill in weapons though, HEMA might not the place. Also, there are a lot more kendo clubs around with decent following and a long track record and much more support. If you like it good for you.
They can live on the moon if they survive 3 rounds.
>HEMA is sloppy as shit
Don't confuse HEMA with literal LARPing.
>What I've seen from HEMA is not very impressive as far as skill goes but it is still young so it'll probably get better.
Literally hundreds of years old you ignorant american cunt.
>If you are looking for skill in weapons though, HEMA might not the place.
You have no idea what you're talking about.
> Also, there are a lot more kendo clubs around with decent following and a long track record and much more support. If you like it good for you.
>americans are weebs
Colour me surprised
Jousting should make a comeback. It's more easily made into a competitive sport, more noble, more brutal, and requires both physical fitness, strategy, and horsemanship.
>Choke holds & drop kicks.
Whatever works.
Apparently these guys allow weapons to be heavier than the historical average weapon.
aclknights.com
Same here
scallagrims.com
Even Battle of the Nations allows them
botn.info
>Single handed swords:(including falchions): maximum length of 110 cm weight up to 1900g.
>Longswords: length between 100 and 140 cm, weight up to 2600 g
>Two handed swords: length minimum 140 cm, weight up to 3500 g
>Single handed axes: maximum length of 100 cm, weight up to 1300 g
>Long axes and short polearms: length between 101cm and 140 cm, weight up to 2500 g.
kek I still remember some of threads here on Sup Forums when we watched the matches live
>heavier than the historical average weapon.
That's such a fucking stupid sentence that it hurts to even read that.
Historically weapons differed widely in that regard, what you also fail to realize is that how the weight is distributed is a lot more important.
If an Axe can't cut (because it's dull, you thick cunt) then it won't do much without proper weight behind it.
Why the fuck do you think maces are banned there? Because they are anti-armour.
Since there's a good example right here, look at this picture What do you think that sword will do against armour you stupid cunt?
There's a reason why the SCA and HEMA type don't last long when they try out kendo. I've only seen one person do both in earnest and he practiced kendo decently but he dominated in the rest of his european fighting.
...but certainly don't listen to me...I've only been doing this for years and european.
...
...
Well yeah, it's not perfect man, but the sport only works at all because it isn't a true blood sport these days. There are a lot of limitations in different systems to try and find the right balance between safety and immersion, and different systems have their own unique rules. You can't attack below the torso or use your shield for anything other than blocking in SCA, for example. No grappling at all. No unarmed attacks. Helmets have to have facemasks. When you're learning a style like greatsword or polearm for example, you're constantly wanting to sweep at your opponents legs, but this is disallowed in SCA. Another group I fight with sometimes DOES allow shield bashing, even grappling, but still no attacking the legs. The ones in the OP photo are Battle of Nations I think, and one time I saw a dude almost die doing that so I'll never do it myself. Those maces are real as fuck man. Someone's helmet fell off as he was going down. He caught himself on the knee so as not to go down all the way and lose the round, but then his helmet finished coming off. His opponent's mace kept going for the head and finished taking it off. Lots of blood. Ambulance was already there because these things can happen. They try to keep things safe by not allowing heavy flails or hammers and ending the fight as soon as someone falls, but shit can still happen.
>...but certainly don't listen to me...I've only been doing this for years
Oh so an american has done swordfighting for years? Cool beans.
Certainly I'll take your opinion over that of experts.
Kendo is ritualized bullshit, real HEMA is not, cry all you want to you pretentious motherfucker but while kendo might not be as far removed from reality as "fencing" it's still very clearly nothing more than a sport and not a martial art
Kill yourself, you whiny yankee
Also
>...but certainly don't listen to me...
youtube.com
I know what you mean and I know the reasons, but the problem persists that the weapons that are allowed there are simply inferior of their armour (and have to be for safety) which is why it always turns into grappling matches
Thought the fat one was a ninja turtle at first.
Well I know that my kendo whipped an entire club one person after the other in one session because I could actually hit where I wanted to and needed to. Kendo is totally a sport...It's a sport that teaches speed strength and precision and until I see something similar in european fighters, that shit will be worthless to me.
Aside from it turning into grappling matches, I can see a potential area for teaching teamwork. I don't think that weapons and hits are irrelevant, however.
>I defeated some LARPers. FEAR ME!
Your kung fu is weak, your clan is ashamed of you.
You can actually do groupfights in HEMA, it's fun
Some should be up on youtube
So why not bring your skillset to the sport and enrich it?
I never implied that swords or axes are good against armor, I'm just pointing out that what you said is wrong.
You claimed that
>weapons are not allowed to have any weight
>they are extremely light to avoid injuries
>Most swords aren't super heavy, but they are still way heavier than any of the weapons that are allowed in those tournaments
Also, maces are not banned. Warhammers and poleaxes with pointy ends are banned.
Although they are a bit on the lighter side compared to their historical counterpart(maces that is).
But the swords, axes, polearms and spears are allowed to be as heavy as the historical ones used in combat.
Yea, there's a club nearby I'll check it out.
There are also 1 vs 1 categories (longsword, sword and shield, sword and buckler and since a few years halberd) in the two major championships, which are the Battle of the Nations and the IMCF WC.
Weapons are essential in those competitions because you have to score points. Normally there are two referees who count the points for each fighter. For most people those fights don't seem to be as exciting as those mass-fights with up to 21 fighters on each side.
I personally prefer the 1 vs 1 fights, because I don't really like those wrestling techniques, and if you aren't watching a pro-fight it can be extremly boring as well. Especially if the fighters try to clench the balustrade for as long as possible.
I'd watch real fights to the death
I will not watch grown men prancing around in armor and taking themselves way too seriously
This is like airsoft. If you do this over the age of 12, you should be removed from the gene pool
LARPing is shit
Just box/martial arts
>You claimed that
>>weapons are not allowed to have any weight
They aren't, as you should have figured out by now.
>>they are extremely light to avoid injuries
That's a fact.
>>Most swords aren't super heavy, but they are still way heavier than any of the weapons that are allowed in those tournaments
Guess what homoboy, swords used in the times when armour was far spread, used to be different than this one for example Wanna know why?
Because it wouldn't do shit if you're not riding on a horse and swinging down.
>Also, maces are not banned.
Real maces are banned.
That's like saying guns aren't banned in paintball because they can use paintballs guns.
Sure it's a "gun" but there's no lead.
Blunted cutting weapons are allowed, but that
makes them useless against armor. Maces
are capped at 1 kilogramme weight.
Hammers and flails are banned regardless of weight.
Might as well do airsoft instead.
>inb4 continued autism
The context of this was that weapons are useless, which is why it turns into grappling due to a
>lack of weight
You can now say "but it has weight otherwise they would float" and sure, why not, but what the fuck does that change about what I said except that you chose to ignore the context, take things literally and be a sperglord about it?
Thrusting weapons of any kind(spears) are banned.
I see, my mistake.
How about unironic, non-LARP gladiator fights and/or knight fighting? Let´s start underground til it becomes a movement and the government will be forced to legalize it. I guarantee you we would find some mad men ready to sign up for the glory (and money) and possibly die in the arena!
URI, VINCIRI, VERBERARI, FERROQUE NECARI
Epic, but they are probably using easily brakeable lances, since they aren't being knocked off their horse
Why don't we play some classic football
vimeo.com
The weapons they use are real, true to the time period materials and styles. They aren't allowed to have sharp edges and only allowed to use certain types is all. The weight is still normal, but no warhammers or spears or daggers for example. And then they aren't allowed to hit certain locations with the weapons, like the legs, and you're out as soon as your legs are on the ground. They ruin the immersion of the fighting in a lot of ways in every system really, but the nice thing about Battle of Nations is that they actually do use very real weapons.
Because half of the idea is not just entertainment, but participation. Get people involved to learn teamwork, gain fitness/health, and promote culture.
>it's fun
this, if you have a good time and keeps you fit there isn't really any good argument against it
