unfortunately it's just the reality that people trying to draw parallels between getting banned on some obvious political advocacy website, and genuine, systemic threats to free speech (like making certain opinions or beliefs illegal, like in europe. or erasing certain political ideas from the internet, as has happened recently) is a false equivalence.
i mean nobody gets mad at something like /r/feminism when they ban you for saying "men aren't all bad" or something. i got banned from there like 5 years ago, when i still used to visit reddit sometimes, for saying "breasts are a reproductive organ". is that a "free speech violation"? no. they have a left-wing, looney, nutjob, fringe discussion group, there's nothing wrong with them banning people or locking people out that aren't part of their group.

I think the main issue I have is that various other subreddits, such as latestagecapitalism, do the exact same thing as the_donald (i.e. delete comments and ban users that disagree with them politically) and the_donald says they're stifling free speech by doing so, while not pointing out the apparent hypocrisy of their actions when they do the exact same actions within their own subreddit. It seems to me as though much of the_donald is projecting their own political insecurities/issues onto leftists, or they do exactly the same thing as leftists just with different verbiage and scapegoats.
(e.g. "liberal tears" -> the_donald constantly complains about trivial bullshit nobody cares about; "you're a white Christian male, your viewpoint is irrelevant" -> "You're a cuck, your viewpoint is irrelevant"; "the patriarchal structure of our society guarantees white men into positions of power" -> "jews guarantee other jews into positions of power". etc.)

there is a big difference between pointing out that reddit is overwhelmingly left wing, and that it's CEO, /u/spez, who by the way has edited users comments on T_D and done other fucked up shit, is making a concerted effort to bury right-wing views on his overwhelmingly socially influential website as a whole, and crying "omg freedom of speech violation!"
like is what spez has done a free speech violation? it's very close, but i don't really thinks so. certainly it reveals him to be a propagandizing piece of shit, and he should be called out on it. but i don't think it's a "free speech violation".
