No shit user. ONE doesn't do long and continuous 1v1 battles. The duration of fight scenes in this series ,when compared to the common battle manga, are pretty short. Usually if the fight doesn't serve much significance to the story, it will end in a few moments with the hero or villain blowing they're opponent the fuck out. Most of the major fights in the MA arc were fought in groups with the adversaries alternating between heroes.

They're only of any import for martial artists, but they're small fry compared to the wider world. The fact that their victories are juxtoposed with Genos beating down monsters the same way they won is to show just how inferior they are in comparison. They were given attention in the start because they're participants in Super Fight, and those who participate in the tournament are considered "qualified". They're given less attention now because their achievements are just that minor in comparison to designated jobber Genos.

That said, the manga has always been canon. Super canon, really, since it retroactively changes things to build up to the future arcs.
