When you're referring to generation Y you have to realize your referring to kids still finishing middle school.
What do you think is more likely, that people change their views after they are fully matured, or that they make up their minds by the end of elementary school and are conservatives or liberals from then on out.
Three things you're forgetting:
1) As the boomers die the millennials will also age, and with that comes paid compensation. When your average millennial starts seeing that 30-50% of your work life is spent slaving for the government their mentality changes quickly.
2) As women reach their late 20's and early 30's they suddenly realize that their sexual market value is plummeting and they look for stable long term relationships. This will help quell some of the leftist votes from women as men are more likely to be right wing and impose that on their women
3) Gen Z mock elections and polls had Trump winning by margins higher than the boomers, another example would be the French Election where the youth overwhelmingly supported her.

It is a myth that you become more CONSERVATIVE as you age, but it is NOT a myth that your politics may shift as you age due to genetics. As you get older, people of similar genetics pick up similar beliefs (assuming they weren't already there).
