I don't think it is but every time one of these threads pop up people always go "just watch another 50 episodes till you really like it, trust me!".

It depends on your sense of humor

depends on your definition of good. Some parts have you gut busting in laughter, other parts will get you really depressed.

one of my fave bits

youtube.com/watch?v=2hGSfJGBKJ0

Literally this
if you have a shit tier humour you'll like it
if you have high standards that isnt just crude fart joke-tier comedy then you wont

Reminder that this is just a rec thread. Don't spoon-feed the faggot

It's a variety show. It can be any genre at anytime.

This. It's literally Family Guy: the anime.

took me about 80 episodes to get funny. hope it gets better later on

literally anime version of "it really gets good after 30 hours of gameplay!!!"

doesn't gintama consist mostly of references to other anime and japanese culture?

...

Yes, fart jokes are just shitposting.

Hey, FFXIII legitimately was a masterpiece after 25+ hours.

I said it was fart joke-tier Read it properly.

Reference comedy is even worse than fart jokes.

>Liking what I don't like is the epitome of shit taste.

At least we can agree on something.

Gintamafags always get butthurt so easily.

>caring what Sup Forums thinks about an anime
>caring what a random group of people feel about an anime so you can fit in
>Sup Forums has "good taste"

Most anime i've watched that weren't highly posted about on Sup Forums were some of the best i've seen.

Try watching it and forming your own opinion. If that doesn't work kill yourself because anyone who can't form their own opinion about things is a waste of brain matter.

Anons here are angry because they don't get Japanese jokes.

>i'm butthurt

Nope just calling out shitposting, like you're doing.

>family guy
Nice meme

...

No, referential humour is very easy to accomplish and appeals greatly to lesser minded people therefore its low tier (objectively)

I've only seen the first 30 episodes or so which were alright. Highly recommend the two movies though. Those were great.

It's the best comedy anime and the action arcs are pretty good too.

Your part of the problem.

And I'm okay with that.

Sup Forums generally has shit taste or is slightly ahead of the asspie mainstream lemmings.

What are some of these "best anime" just out of curiosity? No judgement

Gintama is back and better than ever! Featuring aliens, time clocks, and the fondling of breasts! Gintama is an anime based around humor and references; it shall blow your mind with questions of how it has not gotten copyright strikes! Now prepare for the 4th wall to be broken, and to cry your eyes out in laughter at the not-so-organised story of a Silver Haired Samurai and his incredible life in the city of Edo!

Just read the doujins.

This

Even the doujins have references

The first 200 episodes were great. I remember being a little disappointed about the newer episodes though until I put it on hold.

Gintama's appeal is the anime team being able to do pretty much anything they want, be it references or politically incorrect jokes. Couple that with a very likeable cast of characters, and you got yourself an entertaining show, provided you're weeaboo enough to get all pop-culture references.

>An intelligent post
>only lesser minded people appreciate referential humor

And only gourmet food tastes good? I'll give you that it's easy to accomplish, but being able to appreciate simpler things does not mean that one is limited to doing so and cannot appreciate the finer things.

Truthfully, said people have a different insight as to what is pretentious for the sake of being pretentious than someone who only enjoys "high-tier" content. Not always better, but a different insight as they are not limited to enjoying things by the classification placed on it by others, whether it be due or not. A great chef is a great chef, but there is appeal to simpler things as well, such as food from home for example.

Paying heed to a review is fine, however, enjoying things solely because of outside appraisals is the death of the taste of the one consuming the content.

>No judgement

Not buying it. Boku no Pico

...

No one cares as long as it makes them laugh. Unless you're an autist, of course..

This is false flagging, right? I can't honestly believe you find this funny.

Gintama is for faggots.
Watch a real funny anime like ZZ Gundam.

I find it funny. The scene is a fan favorite, actually.

I suppose Gintama is simply not for you. Which is strange since Gintama's humor is very Japanese and similar humor can be found in most comedy anime. Maybe you just don't like Japanese humor?

very hit or miss

I disliked Gintama but Hoozuki no Reitetsu had me in stitches most of the time so I doubt it's just "disliking japanese humor"

When I said Japanese humor, I was referring to the typical boke/tsukkomi kind of humor which isn't exactly prevalent in Hoozuki no Reitetsu. Seeing how you picked that of all anime, I'd say you just have a rather unusual taste in anime and maybe humor.

don't get caught in the baits OP, basically if you're a weeb you'll love it, if you aren't you won't, that's it, it's a parody anime that has joke references to other anime and japanese culture
for example this :
youtube.com/watch?v=BPnkJJnla4k

I like boke/tsukkomi style of humor, so the jokes do appeal to me. Everybody acts like an idiot 75% of the time and serious 25%, but they do manage to act properly at the right times. I'd say that the new seasons of Gintama do work out better due to the overall improvement in quality, so maybe newcomers should try out the funny arcs first before getting to the serious ones.

Also, Tama best girl.

If you watch it out of order

The continually built up cast is what keeps it fun

The serious arcs are the biggest hit or misses, mostly misses. The series will lampoon melodrama and then absolutely revel in it for it's own serious moments to a degree where it's hard to be invested.

The music. Best OP: youtube.com/watch?v=aRGgZtb8ZF4

i've tried to pick it up multiple times but the best i could do is hold on 20 episodes and even that feels like a wasted time

it's kinda worth it later, it gets significantly better +100 since it went on a 2 year hiatus, but you need early eps for character dev

I heard it's going to get a dub in Canada.

I would consider this a significant bastardization of the three ep rule

there's a reason why it's often ranked in top 10 in wsj

mal tier trash of garbage

It's one of those series where you either love it or hate it. No point in arguing with people who don't like it. They just have a difference sense of humor. I just tell myself it's their loss.

It's even made tear up once.

...

And I am sure there is a reason that there are many people that rank SAO highly but I don't understand that either

Doesn't have broad appeal like One Piss but it's one of the few series that gets called a masterpiece by those who enjoy it and for good reason. It will always be in my top 3.

This
Forgot what season it was but watched the Gintama classics to start myself off and thought it was pretty great
Got all the introduction I needed with the black odd jobs crew

>It's even made me tear up once

In 300+ episodes of content this is not an achievement, an onion could do it in 1

I like Otae and Kyubei, you're all overly harsh on them and generally assholes

if ypu don't like this style of comedy you simply won't like.

Shonen and sad parts are great because they contrast so well with the comedy

Otae is rather unpopular, but Kyubei? Isn't she generally loved?

I'm sure his point was that it's a comedy series that made him tear up.

for me more than once

>okita's sisster
>old dog
>4 deva's arc ending

Will Sarutobi win Gintoki's Gintoki

she will win the hanzo

And mine is that this is nothing new

Tsukky will win the Gintokibowl and none of you faggots can do anything about it.

So your problem with Gintama is that it has 300+ episodes?

It was a 2 episode arc.

Not sure if bait, SAO is LN not on swj

Woops replying to my own post

I also fucking hate this but trust me, Gintama is the only series in the world that this rule really aplies.

Anyone liked Sexy Commando Gaiden? I loved the manga, could never get on to the anime.

It has a great VA cast

It is. Just not enough to warrant so many episodes. What did you think of it?

Gintama is shit, don't fall for the memes.

Otae is the shittiest character in Gintama.

japs can't into humor
