Shaft or ufotable

>shaft

I kinda want that.

>novel translations are fuck slow
Just kill me

>Loli reincarnation might overtake battle harems

I hope it does well

>ch 3 manga RAW released
>progress for chapter 2 translation is slow as fuck

FML this will take forever

That's because it's very hard to translate.
The TL for the novel compared it to a college thesis once.

High time to learn moonrunes, user.

God the design is so fucking PERFECT.

They better get the eyes spot on.

I love that even in the panels in the where she is happy and behaves cute, the eyes look somehow still insane

PV when?

This anime seems like the least likely thing to be adapted ever but I'm glad it's happening.

Shaft barely adapts things that are surprisingly anymore. Mostly just high profile anime given to them by Aniplex.

I personally wonder why they did the reincarnation thing at all. I mean, it could just be grimdark Strike Witches with no effective change.

Is having him be a middle-aged man in a little girl's body really necessary?

The author is fucking with the reincarnation trope, his mentality is explained in the epilogue of Vol.1

You could say the same for about 80% of the isekai series.

Is this actually good

It's like Nazi Nanoha

It has the theme of cynicism towards the idea of mankind relying on God and believing that prayers are not needed and mankind can achieve on their own feet.

For still shots that'd be pretty easy as the manga does but I doubt we'd ever see those eyes of that level.

Even the simpler style whacky eyes in the manga would be good enough for me.

>Tanya finished 2nd graduatin from army school

I'm interested in who beat her and deny her the position of Top Recruit

IMS/Diomedea/DEEN

Pick one.
Or at best, Madhouse Overlord team since both show are under same brand.

Probably a guy with proper age.
Being female and underaged can really cost her reputation.

dumb lewdposter

IIRC all sorts of studios animates Kadokawa stuff.

Diomedea or Silver Link.

Overlord is more character driven so the team cutting there some unfortunate flab away really sunk the start and start of final arc.

Youjo relies even harder on internal monologue and maps/narration that they'd have to at least do 1:1 on the manga to make it any justice.

And that Madhouse team hardly would have my hopes go up in succeeding at that.

Come on, Tanya is codenamed "Mithril", which is like magic silver.
It only make sense if SliverLink does it.

I mean I guess I could see SL get it by sheer virtue of them handling Brave Witches with the SW staff.

>Tanya is codenamed "Mithril"
Really?

People are arguing that it's either Silver or Mithril. Later as she keeps killing her enemies she's known as Rusted Silver or Rusted Mithril because she kills a lot of people

Why would you award anyone the same codename with the medal you're giving her?

That'd be quite redundant. I'd rather see it as she got the silver assault wings and is a mage so magical silver fits bit better as a code.

It's an "official nickname" thing that the military awarded her.
I think it have nothing to do with the medal, just a nickname for war hero.

>Implying he will learn moon on level that allows you to read youjo senki

Considering it's also very rare to receive this Silver Assault medal AND live kind of makes sense to use 'Silver'

On the other hand the Empire wants to use her as a propaganda tool so 'Mithril' has a nice ring to it

Well she had something that the other recipients didn't and is pretty good tool for propaganda.

It's pretty much a package deal either way since both the medal and the name were seemingly awarded for the same deed and during same ceremony.

But they both fit so it's not that much of a leap to be one or the other, the package deal can be spun both ways and say it's Silver and not Mithril.

The codename would make more sense to me if it correlated what Tanya is, not that she gets the nickname from the award for the rest of her career.

And it would feel cheap towards the other recipients of the same award. Tanya had something the rest didn't and got a better package out of it.

Though it's far higher chance for the whole thing just to be 90% propaganda and 10% actual thought.

Except instead of befriending people with enormous lazers she atomizes them (when she's not dismembering them with her bare hands).

Well I don't see the reason to befriend soon-to-be fertilizer either way so they can just blame their bad luck of being forced to be on the opposing side.

Befriending will happen the moment Tanya fights a cute girl.

And all would be well in the end but would Tanya consider that enough if it was war? So far she has horrendously made flights & squadrons drop dead without really thinking about who they were potentially.

And the flying gear usually obscures your enemies in the air so unless they open their mouth on open communications line I can't really see Tanya running into other specimens.

Befriending a cute girl by killing her father and her comrades in arms

That's not a girl, that's an old lady!

She can only blame the state and higher ups for that one. Too bad she doesn't seem to be stable enough to consider the big picture.

That's not an old lady because she is cute! CUTE!

With a face like that seems more like a not-cute cake. But some domestication might do the trick.

I can't self insert as a girl or woman but I can if it's a man in the body of a girl.

To make my penis even harder once doujins come out

So it seems the consensus here is to use mithril as her second name.
If its correlated to tanya it's a better fit imo, since mithril is described as very strong, but at the same time very light.

Either way it's not like it is a big deal to change it and it might be better to use the name from the novel, since many who read the manga have read the LN.

What kanji do they use? I didn't even realize the japanese language accounted for a western mythological material.

I don't have the raws right now, i'm on my phone
But it was translated as silver/snow

crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2016/06/11-1/anime-eyes-have-become-burdensome-to-productions-according-to-staffer

Kazuyoshi Yaginuma, a key animator veteran of productions from Akira to Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad to several Naruto films, let social media know that the length of time that goes into drawing anime characters’ increasingly complex eyes is making it impossible to draw them quickly enough to earn a living.

“The talk is that just drawing the eyes for a modern anime girl takes as much effort as it used to take to draw the entire bridge of the Space Battleship Yamato."

Drawing three frames featuring modern anime eyes can take two hours, while average pay for one frame is ¥200 (just under $2).

“At this rate, animators can’t eat (;´Д`)"

A man can dream, they don't always have to do her eyes with that much detail as long as the key scenes put in the effort.

Just because it describes her in a vacuum doesn't make it an appropriate name for the translation. Was it ever said in the story that her name is meant to describe her strength and lightness? If not then you're inserting characterization that doesn't exist into the story, changing a translation into fanfiction.

Silver to relate to the medal makes sense, the possible "snow" translation also may be intentional on the author's part depending on how he sees Tanya's homeland. (A lot of people associate cold weather with europe in general.) I have no idea where "mithril" came from, "mithril" is not a word in the japanese language (technically not even English) and would have been in Katakana were it actually used.

>series you've read and liked for a long time
>now damn EOPs are getting their grubby hands on it

Always feel bad.

>angry that other people get to enjoy things

Well you could have liked a series that was bad enough that nobody bothered to pick it up from web status.

And now you're interpreting what author might have used the snow for like the classic example of "the curtains were blue", that's about as bad.

But yeah I do agree, if it wasn't in katakana or a loan word then people should stick to Silver if it was explicitly used.

The designation probably comes up maybe once or twice a volume and we are here just picking strands out of semantics for curtains.

白銀 like a lot of names has a lot of meanings, it's not just a word to translate.

白 refers to innocence. In other words, her nickname draws attention to the fact that (in their eyes) Tanya is just an innocent child, which makes her heroism all the more significant. This connotation is also very important for future characterization, as when Tanya becomes known as a bloodthirsty killer the "innocence" is lost and her nickname is changed.

銀 means silver. A pretty blatant reference to the silver winged assault medal. However, it also means "money". This carries the more subtle pun/implication that the ones who named her see her as a source of profit. This is relevant to how her receiving the medal and being nicknamed was treated as a major publicity event.

白銀 together is actually a very concise recount of her accomplishment: Innocent child who received the Silver Winged Assault Medal.

「はくぎん」 to my knowledge isn't a single word for "silver" or "snow", it's just a reading for her name and the words "はく" and "ぎん" mean each one individually.

Naturally you don't convey any of this with "mithril". I'd say you only convey half the meaning with "silver", and even less with "snow".

My personal suggestion would be "Pure Silver". "Pure" captures both the purity/innocence meaning, as well as the material 'purity', and is generally the most suitable the future development of her nickname. In my opinion, it's also feels much more complete as a name than a single word like "Silver" or "Mithril" anyway.

Aside from "Pure Silver" there's also maybe "White Silver" or "Clean Silver", however I don't think "White" or "Clean" communicate the "Innocence" factor as well, it makes the connection indirect by using a word that might symbolize innocence rather than one that can literally mean innocence. There is the case to be made that the meaning of the name is meant to have some subtlety, however "Pure" has a double meaning between Innocence and physical Purity, so any need for ambiguity can probably be considered to be met based on that. Not to mention the self-contradictory nature of a name like "White Silver" to begin with.

Oh, and here's the raw for reference.

What is her new nickname later anyway?

Rusty Silver was mentioned in the thread and previous one with the explanation how that got added to it, other than that no idea.

Officially it's still 白銀, white/pure silver
The enemy calls her "Devil of Rhine"
That Sue dude she killed think she is "Rusted Silver"
And there's "Shinigami", which lower ranks in the military refers to her

Considering her looks and how she acts the last one is propably the most fitting outside of how Visha describes her.

Well,
I guess trying to use the LN as a reference was wrong.
It's great to have so many anons who are into kanji these days here, it's really helpful

And people tend to blow things out of proportion either way but it's great that people are willing to point out mistakes and say what it should be so they can be fixed. For WIP stuff that's easy to rectify.

Yes and I really like that it is discussed here in a civilized manner and people, as you said, point out mistakes and give suggestions instead of spouting out profanity

Oh right for some reason i thought she gon another one
Wouldn't translating her first nickname as Pure Silver fit her the most then?

No it'll be animated by Madhouse and they'll butcher it just like what they did with Overlord or Mahouka

I will kill myself on stream if that actually ahppens

New chapter when?

Seems good, will use it for now

Next month

it says when in the tl´ers blog

It really makes more sense if she gets recognized as bloodthirsty killer later on and turns into Rusted Silver from the "pure and innocent" she was at the beginning

It's amusing how now for start the hr officers view her when she gets sent around the Empire and presumably that sentiment will spread from there to the rest of the "commitees" and meetings we've seen.

>Rusted
Why not "tarnished silver"? Typically silver tarnishes, not rusts.

"Rust" is usually used in association with iron and steel specifically, and "corrode" is used instead for other metals. Tarnish is when a very thin layer of corrosion forms on the surface of some metals like silver and magnesium where the corroded layer protects the rest of the material from also corroding.

It's a LN.

What the fuck do you think?

The 'Rusted' part was given to Tanya after killing a lot of enemies throughout her military career that Silver 'Tanya' is covered in rust 'blood'

Then that would be "Rust-covered Silver" or at best "Rusty Silver", since "Rusted" implies that it is the silver that has undergone the process of rust, as opposed to simply being rust-colored or covered with something that is rust-colored.

'Rusty' silver sounds good

>wants nothing more but to have a comfy admin desk job
>reluctantly accepting front line engagements because it'll boost her military resume with favorable promotions and medals

The way she's going either Tanya will have to become at least a Colonel or General rank or she becomes unfit for combat duty due to serious near career ending injuries to get that comfy desk job she wanted

...

no it's because it's literally 1 guy working for like 30 minutes a day

Studio Feel is better.

...

I wish there were more panels with better shots of long haired tanya

I'd kill for more regular little girl clothes on Tanya.

Goddamn the eyes are gorgeous, I don't think the eventual anime will be able to do them justice.

Why are they so thick

I like 'em thick

LNs are never thick enough

...

Doesn't volume 6 come out like literally tomorrow?

What was the original character used anyway? 錆?

Does Feel even do violent anime?

>Check around for this pic
>It's actually from a poster
Fuck I want one now

God I wish the translation team was more than one guy spending 5 minutes a day.

Translation is hard work, user.

I hope you seriously don't think you can just mtl this

The point of the "reincarnation" aspect of the story is that the main character's personality is the end product of Japanese society. He is exemplary in that he perfectly embodies the spirit of Japanese corporate culture.

A perfect comparison is that he is essentially the Japanese version of Patrick Bateman.

The point I'm making here is that if the author simply threw the reader into the universe of notGermany with no explanation, they would think that it's stupid that a 9 year old is acting like a 30 year old corporate sociopath with no explanation as to where she gets any this from.

On the plus side, if you spend a few hours a day with a dictionary you can probably outpace the translation!
