From the premise I expected a comfy show, what I got was the opposite. Most uncomfy thing I've seen in a while. I had already dropped it before episode 12 so I wasn't there for the shitstorm.

I stopped enjoying this show when I saw her hit Machi.

She wasn't crazy in the manga.
She literally hallucinates out of nowhere in the show.

Learn to accept bad endings you fags, anime needs more bad endings in general.

Apparently it wasn't just the mindbreaking herself into thinking people were throwing stones at her, it was also the line in the scene on the roof where Yoshio was talking about a "sacrifice" that combined to trigger nippon teikoku tribal memories. That changed it from being just a weak ending to holy shit we're triggered fuck this shit.

Writer decided to lay low as soon as the shitstorm started to brew, deleted his twitter and tried to remove himself from kumamiko page on wiki, people took it as a sign of angry otaku harassing him or some shit.
Mangaka said lines they made Yoshio say in last episodes were cruel, later had to delete the post since she isn't allowed to talk shit about her product.

Reminder that Hibiki was literally the only character in the show who gave a shit about Machi. Yoshio is a fucking aspie retard who deserved every sucker punch he got, and Natsu is almost as bad.

Yep anime script writers are fucking terrible. A good chunk of the industries problems would be solved if they could find people even remotely competent to fill these positions and then just let them work without the production committee meddling in everything. It's never going to happen though, nobody with any real talent wants to work in a medium as low tier ranked, stigmatized and that pays as shitty as anime does in Japan.
