>U.A. is an elite institution only the most promising aspiring heroes can attend >Among its students are a guy with grape-testicles on his head, a girl who's a frog, a guy who can make his body hard and a guy who has a tail >These are the nation's best and most promising students
Harvard and other Ivy League schools let niggers and spics with shit grades in.
Why should UA be different?
Blake Wilson
>They all successfully endured a surprise villain attack through teamwork, with and hard work
not seeing the problem
Jack Ortiz
>Grape guy able to control the tempo of any fight >Frog girl 20/10 agility >Guy who has a generic but still efficient power >Martial artist with a swole tail
I don't see what you're trying to say
Ian Miller
Remember Japan has the oldest population with low birth rate and is closing down schools.
U.A. cannot be picky if it hopes to have full classrooms.
Elijah Myers
>If BnHA was American, Deku would've gotten affirmative action for being Quirkless
Easton Evans
Don't forget that intelligence and general athletic ability is also a huge factor characters like tail boy and eraserhead who have meh quirks that rely on superior physical ability, and we must also assume that there are just a ton of shit quirks, or people who just don't want to go into the hero business.
Connor Baker
>expecting a mediocre shonen manga to not have glaring inconsistencies
I do agree headgrapes is a real stretch though.
Michael Cox
>meh quirks >eraserhead
Matthew James
why does every post in this thread seem so familiar...
Robert Allen
You're right it's not meh but if you're going one on one with someone and they have a quirk that just happens to be erasable, you still need to fight and restrain rather than solely relying on your quirk like Mt. Lady
Wyatt Sanders
Seeing how most people have shit powers like attracting little objects to them, these dudes have potential
Jacob Thomas
>eraserhead >meh quirk
Jaxson Watson
If Eraserhead wasn't a top tier badass, his entire repertoire would be "Look at the toughest guy and don't blink."
With his skill, experience and equipment, he literally shut down a mob of villians for an extended fight, and only lost due to fatigue.
For another great example of shit quirks with amazing implications, Sellotape is a few years of experience away from being UA's very own spiderman.
Anthony Green
>Sellotape is a few years of experience away from being UA's very own spiderman.
Except he doesn't have super strength.
>"Look at the toughest guy and don't blink." Or you shoot him with your gun.
Connor Turner
>If Eraserhead wasn't a top tier badass, his entire repertoire would be "Look at the toughest guy and don't blink." And even that would've made him very useful. Even if he only ever looked at the thoughest guy without blinking,he'd be a majjor boon.
Being a top tier badass is just icing on the cake.
Luke Ward
>japan >guns
Jaxon Lopez
That bothered me too.
Especially coupled with the fact that you have to destroy a bunch of robots to get in. Not only is that stupid because it would exclude tons of potential powers that could be great in lots of situations but just not at destroying robots, but it makes me wonder how the fuck grape-head and other such chucklefucks somehow destroyed any robots, let alone got in the top 50 of hundreds of applicants. And don't give me that "oh but the rescue score" bullshit. I doubt grapehead did anything heroic there, and there's no real metric to measure something like that and it was only used as a cheap plot device to make it seem like Deku wouldn't make it in but obvious would all along.
Owen Bennett
hm?
Alexander Jenkins
Speedreader you only have to incapacitate them, which grapes can clearly do with his head testicles. I agree the system is a little dumb though
Luke Lopez
>and a guy who has a tail >fight against a group of villains in a city ON FUCKING FIRE longer than eraserhead >not fucking top tier
Daniel Hernandez
Read the manga; one of the villains entire combat strategy is "Produce poison smog, stand there in a gas mask, shoot anyone who approaches in the gas-mask."
Isaac Torres
Don't be talking shit about grapes. While it might not be as combat orientated as skin hardening, is has much more versatility, as the wall climbing in the bathouse chapter has shown us.
Adrian Davis
By definition, Grape could have technically "incapped" a bot with a single ball, since immobilizing the tread/wheel would instantly void the count.
Also, he had a modest rescue score, like most of the other applicants.
Connor Sanders
Quirks are just jojo stands but without physical bodies.
Prove me wrong.
Matthew Perez
>Quirks are just Stands but without the thing that make them Stand
Zachary Murphy
Stands are just super powers with physical bodies. And regular super powers have been an idea since long before stands.
Like I've seen a lot of stupid fanboy viewpoints in life but the idea that jojo invented super powers and everything else with super powers in is just "ripping off jojo but without the stands body" is really damn up there.
Landon Flores
You realize that stands were just a way to make using special powers more visually interesting, right? "Stand without the body" describes literally every single series that has superpowers.
Jason Torres
The sheer outlandishness of most of the powers can easily be switched between the two series without discrepancy
Angel James
quirks superpower system is more similar to what you see in the comic worlds tho (marvel, dc) just naturalized in their context, like mutants post-social acceptance.
Angel Parker
>Jojo invented "outlandishness"
Connor Thomas
Talking about the "atmosphere" the powers bring. Outlandishness and superpowers as a whole aren't a new concept. But the powers and aesthetics are fairly similar
Lucas Martinez
In what fucking way. Is jojo the only work of fiction you'd ever seen before watching hero academia?
Joseph Sullivan
>Jojo literally fucking invented the idea of being bizarre
Joseph Nelson
Grapist can pitch like an American major leaguer with pinpoint accuracy and he's the worst of the ones you mentioned.
Chase Morgan
Quirks are just jutsu but without handsigns
Prove me wrong.
Jose Bell
We probably would have gotten rid of affirmative action by then.
Mason Lee
Quirks are just bankai without swords, prove me wrong.
Ayden Lewis
Didn't Eraserhead say that the robot-destroying thing was dumb and he was working on having it changed because it does exclude a lot of talented people?
Gavin Foster
Stands are just devil fruits but with a physical body instead of a fruit you eat.
Prove me wrong.
Luis Peterson
Quirks have been shown to have the potential to be incredibly useless. If my quirk were to say the ability to sweat on command or shrink the size of any individual appendage then any of those heroes you listed is more likely to kick my ass
Christopher Lee
We need to see him fight, I sense he has Kenshiro-tier martial arts.
Grayson Thompson
devil fruits are a lot closer to quirks than stands
Jonathan Jenkins
Daily reminded that pic related is canon American Hero University
Tyler Ross
There are also completely useless quirks which can't be used in combat at all.
Owen Richardson
He stopped them from moving, there was like an entire page about this
James Gonzalez
They can fight and they can rescue, unlike a bunch of scrubs with useless quirks who going into less prominent hero schools or not going at all. It's also about how you use your quirks. Just look at those villains who got their ass handled to them by literal children after a few days in school.
Carson Sanchez
>thinking there are quirks that cant be used in combat at all >being this close-minded and uncreative
Jack Morales
im sure that they tested high on other points of getting in.
Evan Gomez
Devil Fruits are just Jutsus but with a fruit you eat instead of a scroll. Prove me wrong.
Liam Nelson
>guy whose quirk is growing 2 inches taller, nothing else
You have 5 minutes to make that useful for combat
Go
Blake Clark
Of course anything "can" be used in combat. Doesn't mean it'll be any effective.
Isaiah Clark
out of universe explanation is that mineta is comedic relief
what is in-universe explanation for how he passed the entrance exam
Parker Nguyen
does everything scale or is it just height
Oliver Turner
Quirks are just plasmids but without the drug addiction allegory.
Prove me wrong.
Brandon Cook
He made it so the robots couldnt move, theres a whole page explaining it
Daniel Wood
Everything, he doesn't become a lanklet.
Colton Nelson
Not seeing the problem considering the massive boner US has for Batman.
Eli Walker
I see where you going.
Michael Ortiz
>fighting a female villain >pin her, start ramming her >activate your growth quirk and rupture her hard >she now has a hurt vagina and cannot fight
Liam Rodriguez
does it have to work in every combat or just once
Cooper Gray
>be manlet >pick a fight on a typical wednesday night >6'4" adonis closes distance >grow to 6'0" >headbutt him in the nose
Not him but I see both of your points.
Christopher Price
This gonna sound like a shitty headcanon, but I think that humans in MHA have evolved a whole bunch in their physical capabilities. That's why 15 year old kids can perform on a level of today's top athletes. Might also serve as a good explanation to the "why they don't just shoot em with da gun" conundrum, as guns just aren't as effective against this Homo Superiors
Isaiah Hall
>if BnHA was german, deku would've been put in a train and sent to a concentration camp for being quirkless
Elijah Morris
Anal hurts more and you can do it to both genders.
Jack Torres
Still lowkey one of the best superhero movies desu
Easton Taylor
Eraser himself would have been excluded
Easton Hughes
Really? I remember it having weak writing. Worth a rewatch?
Nolan Perez
And we'd have gotten Bakugou as MC, bitching about having to use the fucking strength quirk when his own is so good.
Blake Young
If aizawa erased AfO power, would he negate the ability to steal quirks or all the quirks he stole + the ability to steal quirks?
Christian Garcia
Isn't there also a written entrance exam? People with shitty quirks could hypothetically place in the top 10 or so on the written and barely make it into the top 50 on the combat portion and still have a chance at making it in.
Cooper Davis
why is luffy so fucking hideous
Ethan Hernandez
>remove everyone elses quirks >save their helpless asses as they try and figure out why they cant use their abilities >100 rescue points excluded for good reason user
Landon Wood
Superman could literally shoot mini-Supermen from his hands.
David Garcia
Grapeboy had to have gotten in that way
Adrian Scott
Of coursw superpowers and wierd abilities are in alot of shit. But for example fucking shit like grape head boy in bnh and goo goo dolls in jojo are both powers in the same bracket of absurdity that could be interchangeable between series without it seeming out of place
Chase Stewart
>shrink arm >shove it up someone's nose >grow it and blow their brains out
Isaiah Wilson
Eh, it's the little things. >Superhero classes can be overcome, but are undeniable >Dude gets rekt >osananajimi hides powerlevel >Everything about Warren Peace >Wonder Woman guest appearance >Dat corny direction
Michael Perez
Shinsou with the proper physical combat training would be an improved aizawa.
Hell he would be even better
Aaron Clark
>implying animal themed powers aren't the shit for their versatility
William Carter
Nope, Horikoshi explained it. Said he stopped the robots from moving
Levi Davis
Every combat I guess, he can grow and shrink as fast as he wants to and as many times as he wants.
Within reason, of course.
John Harris
is being rich a quirk?
Jayden Wright
>Goo Goo Dolls That isn't the weirdest Stand in Jojo, and it's not weird in general. Read more manga.
Owen Gomez
>grab someone by the throat >cover their mouth with your hand >drown them with your sweaty palms
Parker Jackson
the hardening guy's power is strong
one of the top heroes' only superpower is to stop the superpowers of other people from working, that alone isn't a very strong power
oh and in the latest episode we see the guy whose power is that he's just super precise, that it
The noumu was a body quirk (I forgot the name) tho
Aizawa could erase OfA, so I believe he could erase AfO
Lucas Carter
His quirk is literally just ultra sticky flypaper balls. The only bizarre part is how he grows them quickly and how they don't stick to his own body
Joshua Fisher
it would be interesting to create a martial arts style that uses holds to break bones or pull the opponents muscles with the growing and shrinking. Also you could trick someone into thinking you can hulk out and grow more
Robert Hughes
Just drawing a comparison. Replace goo goo dolls with sex pistols or soft ans wet and it has the same effect
Jack Gray
well you can get a stand in several different ways and people who don't have enough spiritual strength just die, i don't see how they're similar
Grayson Diaz
If he throws too many he'll start to bleed, so there's a limit.
Caleb Perez
Sorry, but you could do it with just about any superhero-themed story. There's nothing that makes Jojo really compare to BnHA. Hell, TerraFormars and even Arachnid had weirder shit.
Jose Perez
Did he say destroy or disable? Because Grapes could have easily locked down a bunch with his balls and been considered a winner. After all, that's enough for most villains to be considered disabled, including Nomu, Shiragaki and Stain if he managed to land a single ball on a foot or whatever might touch another surface.
Kayden Moore
Yeah but realistically something unavoidable in capeshit he should only have less than 10 sticky balls, which he clearly has more of. There's a difference between bizarre and extending the possibilities of sticky balls a little
Jaxon Barnes
Youre right. I was just saying the overall atmospheres can be interchanged
Parker Adams
At least we can all agree that Bakugou>Deku Right?
Tyler Edwards
I'm saying that while it's impossible for him to grow them that quickly, there are still rules associated with his powers.
