carpentry yes bricklaying is fairly simple, there's defo technique and skills and masters but it's fairly monotonous and a big strain on the body. It will make you hench. carpentry and joinery are useful skills outside of the job, highly transferable, furniture, home improvements etc. as well as opening more opportunities to doing art / decorative. it's probably easier to find a walk-in job doing bricklaying but you will be carrying bricks for the pro for at least a year. Carpentry is prolly more rewarding

You can learn everything there is to know about bricklaying in a week.It'll take years to get your speed and precision stuff but it's just years of putting brick on brick. Followed by decades of putting brick on brick, but faster. Joinery, on the other hand, is a respected, interesting trade with good prospects.

I'm a carpenter. If you've got patience and high standards of work you can quite easily find yourself working with good people making good money. There's a much higher ceiling, you're more likely to move onto management, if you want (most foremen and management come from carpentry) and you can continue to hone your skills to a very high level.
Bricklaying, on the other hand, has less room to manoeuvre. I know some decent brickies but most that I encounter are just fucking shoddy twats. They will endanger you, they will fuck about and mess stuff up, there is no consistency in the trade. There's a couple we work with regularly because they're sound and do a great job but I dread contracting because I inevitably end up on site with tons of the shitheads.
Carpentry is basically better. I am biased, but I'm also right. If you put some effort in you can have a really good career out of it. Plus you'll last longer, can specialise or go into cabinet making, can easily knock up all kinds of jobs here and then for extra cash, make better money and get more pussy.
